So yesterday my over drive light would randomly start flashing on and off. I can still engage and disengage the actual over drive but the light still flashes.

My shifts seem to be getting a little rough, it's an automatic.

I'm going to check fluids today and see how that is and hopefully I'll get some suggestions from here.

I know where I can get another transmission for $400 if it comes down to it and have the people in place to help put it in, I'd like to avoid that however if possible.

Thanks

Mine started doing that back in 2009 and it turned out to b the trans temp sensor. It was like a $79 part. I had the job done at a shop and it was like $160-$179 I think. Have the code pulled at a shop to see what it is. I had the code pulled to find out what it was to find out to eliminate the guesswork.

I stopped by a performance shop that was behind Napa to have it pulled. But the parts stores should be able to plug a code reader into it and pull the code and tell you what it is and they Shouldn't charge you for that. A dealership may charge you. I didn't notice any hard shifts though but within like 3 miles of the light blinking I went adead and took it in and got it read. After that I parked it. Two das later I got it fixed. So it all depends on your problem good luck with it man I woul advise the parts stores to have it read and if they just give you a code with no description then write the code down then hit the net with that code and options when you get home.

When I went to a track day last year my O/D started flashing. A quick check on the ol' interweb told me it was a trans overheat indication (not surprising!). I let the car sit for an hour and it was all good.
So if you haven't been thrashing it a faulty sensor would be a good start.

Flashing OD indicates a problem with the trans. Anything from a faulty sensor, to an overheat, to a solenoid malfunction, to your trans being ****ed. Gotta pull the codes. When mine started flashing on my F150 i lost acceleration and it wanted to die.

I read that the computer could have been messing up so I unplugged my battery while at work today, went out on lunch and plugged it back up and drove for about 10 minutes and it shifted fine with no lights. Got off work and drove home, took a longer route than usual and again everything seemed fine.

Maybe that's all it was? I think we are going to go ahead and drain everything this week though just to check it out.

mine started doing it about a couple years ago. the code was for the 2-3 shift accumulator. it hasn't done since i put in 4.10s tho (over a year).

Another question that I have...

I've read other places that a faulty fuel filter can be easily mistaken for transmission issues and cause the computer to start throwing codes. I have a new filter still in the box just haven't gotten around to changing it yet.

Could that be all it is?

You have to pull the code to see what it is causing it. Mine was flashing and it was epc code which turned out to be problem with ecu
