Sunday night i parked my car after driving 200 miles back to college and when i get in tonight to go to town my car has a bad problem. To me it seems like its in the motor, it kinda surges hard tryin to accelerate and then sittin at the stop light i couldnt tell if it was a knock or the exhaust poppin but i know it wasnt good at all. Any ideas on tryin to diagnose a problem here?

could be a bad exhaust leak, check all your plugs, when my sparkplug blew out it sounded just like an exhaust leak, make sure ur iac is clean, maf, i would also change the fuel filter, and check everything with the igniton system, then check all componets of your exhaust

would an exhaust leak cause that problem....ive had one on the header for awhile and i was just gettin ready to fix it this weekend

yea a bad exhaust leak at the header can cause powerlose

have you had a tune since the Long tubes? how long have they been on?

about 3 months after putting my long tubes on, my car started running like ****. it idled like i had a large set of cams in it, and if i held it at 1200-1500 in any gear, it would start bucking and cutting out really bad. replaced new maf, new camshaft position sensor, new plugs... pretty much everything i knew that could cause it, and it still didnt fix it.

took it to my tuner, and he ran it on the dyno for a bit and datalogged it when it started cutting out, and ended up being my long tubes causing it. When you install long tubes, you extend the O2 sensors so far down, that at lower rpms the exhaust was actually cooling off before it allowed the sensors to get a good read, and was the computer was trying to compensate for the weird readings it got. He tuned it and fixed all of it

sorry for the long book, but just giving you some ideas?

Haha no its cool i greatly appreciate all advice given to me. I've had my longtubes for 10 months now and never had any problems until now. Im not sure exactly what is goin on yet but i know it was missin like a bitch last night.

Check the spark plugs, immediately.

Check the coil packs, but also check to make sure the spark plugs are all seated tightly.

trust me, just make sure they are tight - the spark plugs.

+1

But before you re-tighten them check the gap on them. If you are having serious engine knock like you think you are...those plugs are gonna be mashed up pretty bad. If the plugs look good, you probably have an exhaust leak.

How does the oil look? How does the coolant look? Any smoke? Compression check? If the car was tuned (chipped, re-programmed whatever you want to call it)...try to get the car back to a stock tune.

Do all the basic checks before you go throwing money away on parts you may not need.

When that plug strips out the head, dont come crying to me!
