Ok guys I'm searching around for 5.0's and my only dilemma is not knowing how important it really is to have the brembo brakes package.. Ultimately I'm not sure what is all included in the package either soo I guess what I'm looking for is a comparison of the the standard and brembo brakes packages and opinions if its even worth it if I plan on going coilovers and also will the brembo brakes get in the way of certain wheel sizes/offsets?

do what I did just buy a base model mustang and buy brembo factory takeoffs for $600.00
I then took the rotors to O reilley's and had them turned for like $30.00
bought hawk pads and Goodridge stainless brake lines for like $350.00 for front and rear.
The diffrence in stopping power is phenominal. night and day diffrence between stock. I have been wanting to turbo my car since I bought it little over a year ago but i made a promise to my self to increase the safety of my car first such as rims, tires, suspension, braking power, etc.

What's your plans for the car? The brake pkg is not a necessity but it's nice to have. If youre going full on track car there is way better brakes out there

The car stops great with the brembo pkg I've driven both and brembos just preform better. Driving my car hard in corners I'll get a little brake fade.

What's included in the package. Off the top of my head
-the front brakes obviously
-strut tower brace
-different spring rates. Car sits a little lower to. Maybe 1/2" max
-carbon clutches in the rear end

See here. It's a lot more than brakes. If you don't plan on alot of brake and suspension mods, it's a pretty good value. It was essential to have for me on my '12 as I wanted the top level of factory performance, in every way, the car was capable of at the time.

The front brakes have been on GT500s between 07-12 and so there are lots of wheel choices that will fit. The backs are common to all GTs so, similarly, no problem.

eBay all the time. All the factory parts with Hawk pads new from the dealer is only about $800.

There are better options, though.

For not much more, you can get slotted rotors, better pads, stainless lines and calipers that clear more wheels.

After having owned a Brembos car and needing to replace the pads and rotors at 20k- no thanks.

I auto x quite a bit, not competitively, but I give er every time. I can tell you I have never came close to exceeding the capabilities of my brembos.

That being said if your not going to compete in any way the base brake package will be good enough. If you plan on cone carving or road racing I would have some kind of brake upgrade whether it be factory brembos or an aftermarket option .

I've started too, and have the base brakes... basically from what I've seen/heard, in autocross, not a huge difference as you don't get up to real high speed/long braking...

upgraded pads and rotors can go a long way.

but high speed and track use, new calipers and bigger rotors become required...

I would honestly guess 90% would never find the true limits on even base brakes.

This is probably true. So THIS being said 90% of us don't NEED Brembos.

You need all the brake you can get in emergency braking situations.

My base brakes saw a dramatic improvement with Hawk HPS pads.

for a cheap upgrade over standard brakes I don't know how that can really be beat :headscratcher:
Stoptech kit from Hypermotive. $1100 IIRC.

After buying brembo take offs and upgrading pads/rotors you're in the same price range.

stoptech kit will be my upgrade when I get to that level...

I ever become not poor, I'll also be getting that kit.

The factory brembos are Extremely capable brakes, while at the same time not being super heavy either. The biggest "upgrades" you can do to them is a proper pad and rotors that can handle the heat (NOT drilled/slotted)

Terry Fair from Vorshlag ran their 2011 5.0 (full interior, huge tires, aero and 10k in suspension) with factory brembo brakes with hawk racing pads, centric rotors, and 4" brake ducting and he was doing full out braking from 155mph, and with the ducting the calipers were staying under 500 degrees. They were running 18" wheels, so im pretty sure any wheel youd wanna run would clear brembos fine, as long as they were 18x9 or larger with the proper offset. But their car holds like 15 lap records across the country in the class(es) they ran.

Your best bet for rotors are OEM quality cast iron blanks, like centric or reybestos, Check Rockauto or Tasca for cheap prices on those. Then hit up jayman for good pads.

IMO, the factory brembos are pretty beastly, but they need a more aggressive biting pad and brake ducting if you are going to be really using them, as well as a better quality, higher boil temp fluid and stainless/braided lines.

Ive gotten on my brakes hard from 140mph and only noticed a tiny bit of fade toward then end of the, thats with stock pads and rotors. With ducting and premium pads/fluid i suspect the fade will be gone.

But if you are looking used, and you find one with everything but the brakes, you can always do stoptech or used. But the factory brembos are a really good setup.
