alright.. i first noticed it earlier this afternoon on my way home from school.. when accelerating or trying to maintain a certain speed, usually when going up a hill, my car feels like it has trouble.. like it kicks or something and then starts going again.. it may happen a few times in succession before it actually stops the "kicking" for a bit.. im not pushing the car when it happens.. usually the rpms are around 1500 and the speed range ive been going when its happening is from around 40-55.. does anyone in here have any sort of idea as to what the problem could be?? i have super bald tires on the back that are about to be changed but i dont think id lose traction that easily.. + wouldnt the light on my dash come up about loss of traction? ne help would be greatly appreciated :-/

mines an automatic.. well i havent been driving much outta those speed ranges.. but its usually around those speeds and rpms when i noticed and consciously glance at the dash to check gauges

it might be.. it just feels a little different.. do u think im okay? or should i have it checked out?? maybe check the tran fluid?

#6 ·
Get your trans fluid checked and flushed, and changed if it will make you feel better, but for our cars going from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to second is a noticble shift if your just driving casually or if your driving fast. Personally I think your fine with it.

alright, well thanx alot for the help man, i appreciate it.. ill try to pay more attn to the shift points tomorrow and try to tell if nething seems out of the ordinary.. though i wouldnt know lol.. well neway, thanx Cricket

no prob. It won't shift at the same exact spot every single time, and depending on the rpm range and all that really depends when it "kicks" in. I'm willing to bet it's your just changing gears. I really don't think you have any need for any concern.

kicking

could be a result of a missfire or a clog fuel injector, i had the problem awhile back with my 94 v6 manuel, go to autozone and buy Lucas tune up in a botte/fuel injector cleaner dump it in a full gas tank if its a cloged injector that could be ur problem, if it is going kick then kinda bucks for a lil might be a misfire check ur spark plugs and spark plug wires doub its ur tranny shifting but its a possibility

mine does that too u know what it is? my tranny is up and down shifting depending on my throttle position and how much of a grade my car is on and relative to the rpm range its in. i thought it was weird too but its normal i just never noticed it before because my other cars were all 5 speed. man i miss my 5 speed. no one in Ontario with a lazer red 01 5 speed willing to trade? lol

alright.. ill try that lucas tune stuff if the problem seems to worsen or nething, thanx for all the responses!
well if its slipping then lucas will fix it :D i know cuz like i stated before the only reason my very first sunfire ran (my only other auto car) was cuz the lucas tranny fix and oil treatment cus i hit a raccoon in it and ****ed the tranny some how cuz it would hard shift slip and act all erratic but the lucas fixed it.

Hmm

If you Accelerate from a dead stop....

Does your car "sputter" up the rpms and then past 12-1500 it smooths out?
if its stumbling an accel its either plug, wire, or coil pack. cant be a slipping clutch cuz he aint got one :D could also be fuel filter or pressure regulator if its stumbling on accel.

Or an 02 sensor :p

noise

well go to autozone and have them check it out there'll be able to tell u if ur misfiring if not try the lucas worked for me awhile back

yeah i noticed on my way home from work that it does it when accel. not just going uphill.. so my best bet is to just check connections and then let autozone check it, then try some lucas stuff?

I have a V6 that did the same thing, i just changes the plugs and air filter and as far as i can tell it stoped, if you have Bosch Platnum plugs GET RID OF THEM thats what the previous owner had in my car and they sucked both power and mileage. I just put in autolite platinum plugs i did it today i will drive it more and i'll see what the difference is, now the biggest difference i notice it the power, and it doesnt sputter off the line. Depending on how hard you drive the car i was told NOT to use the bosch but the autolite will be fine as long as you dont drive it like you stole it.

i believe mine are motorcraft.. im starting to wonder if its something to do w/ the fuel pump

do you have a full tank of gas, cause my jeep used to do that before i got the fuel pump replaced, wasn't putting enough gas in, but if you have a full tank then that helps the pump to run better even if it is going away

nah, not full i usually only fill it to around 1/2 tank.. check engine light went away a while back when i replaced my fuel cap and disconnected the negative on the battery cable.. however.. the "check fuel cap" light came on last night..
