Hello all! :)

I recently put the SLP LM1's (axelback) on my car. I based my choice on reviews that i found here and sound clips from YouTube. Everything else is stock (manifold, midpipe, cats, etc...) I must say that i love the way they sound on my car! Sound clips dont really do these any justice! However, i was under the impression that they would be louder.

With that being said, I am looking for advice on midpipes. I cant decide wether to go X or H, Catted or O/R. There are so many combos avalible today. I would just like to know what you guys are running or have had in the past. Why you did or did not like it. etc

Im trying to achieve a nasty, loud, snarling, good old pissed off muscle car sound! Ive looked at the Pypes OR/X and Magnaflow OR/X Tru-Xpipe as well as a few others on American Muscle. Ive also seen the Mac Prochamber H-Pipe.

Im ready to hear any and all opinions about combos for the LM1's. And yes, I know everyone says LM's are a love or hate exhaust! And I love them ;) That being said......have at it! lol

Thanks in advance guys!!!!!!!

Off road X's and H's with the LM1's tend to be very raspy and nasty (bad) sounding IMO. A prochamber may not be bad and give it the good nasty you are looking for. Others will chime in soon.

Thanks guys! I think that may actually be the sound that im going for. I want super loud! lol I dont live in town, so i dont really care what my neighbors think of me! :) napoleon, how long have you had the Pypes O/R x on your car? have you had any trouble with it? The one thing i see about this particular x is that its relatively cheap. so if i get it and decide an x is too loud or too raspy, i wont hate myself for buying it later. If I get one and like the sound of the x paired with the LM's and like it, i may buy a more expensive one later!

Yeah you really need to hear it in person to see how it really sounds. Alot of ppl don't like it. I love it though. I live in town in an apartment complex and I've only gotten one complaint so far. I've had my exhaust since about Oct of last year and haven't had any trouble yet. At first I didn't really like the rasp but I grew to love it.

**** off road exhaust and muffler deletes. It sounds like **** and its painfully loud/annoying. I had Pype Bombs and an offroad x for 3 days before I changed it out. All it took was one decently long drive for me to hate it. It was funny/fun for the first hour or so, then it just got annoying.

Agreed! I have the O/R pipe and the pypes Bomb....Cant wait to get get of it! I like it at first but now its just obnoxious!

There's a guy here locally that has a 2001 Cobra( I think it's '01), and I'm not sure what he's running as far as exhaust. But from what I can tell it looks like straight pipes kinda like my SLP's. I havnt actually looked at the car or asked him what it is, but it is LOUDDDD! It has a fairly hollow and raspy tone. It's also pretty low pitched. I love the way it sounds! And boy, when he gets down on it it really screams! He can take off in front of where I work and i can still hear him almost half a mile away from INSIDE! Lol. A sound like that is what I'm really trying to achieve. I know everyone doesn't like it, but I'm a big fan! :D

here is a idle clip and a small rev to about 2.5k, I have detroit cams. But I`m telling you it is loud when taling off, I`m sure my neighbors hate me leaving for PT at 430 every morning.

Is your h pipe off road? Cause I am installing my JbA headers and off road h pipe... And I have frpp stingers and I think I am going to need some m80's too... Cause I like a nice loud stand but don't want to sound like a truck

That's may be something I look more into then. I really like my LM1's though. Everyone gave me the opinion that they are "ear bleeding loud" and they are "cop magnets" and other things like that. After installing them, I was immediately in love with the sound, but they aren't NEARLY as loud as everyone made them out to be.

And that makes me wonder if pairing them with an O/R x-pipe will make them "too raspy" like everyone says they are. Or if that "raspiness" may actually be close to the sound I'm looking for. Lol

That leads to my next question. What effect will a C.A.I and a tuner have on the LM1/or-x combo? Will it deepen the tone?

Exhaust volume is like perfume on old ladies... You don't think it's loud and obnoxious because you ride around in it all day and get used to it... just like old ladies don't realize how stinky and obnoxious they smell cause they roll around smelling it all day.

That being said, I have run muffler deletes with each combination of midpipe you are considering... (stock H pipe, o/r H, H pipe with high flow cats). Trust the others on this board that tell you that straight pipes and no cats sounds like ass. It will be raspy, high pitched, and will sound like a farm truck.

Muffler deletes sound best with the stock headers and stock midpipe. If you want louder but to still sound good, get an o/r midpipe with some kind of muffler, if you still want it louder get long tube headers, an o/r midpipe, and some kind of mufflers.

Muffler deletes sound higher pitched because mufflers muffle the higher frequencies. Chambered mufflers sound deeper than straight pipes.

I don't know much about stangs but I've had 10 different exhaust setups because that's how many it took before I was finally happy.

I didn't take a sound clip of every combination I've had but these might help you...

1st vid - Muffler deletes (same as SLP LM) stock everything else.
2nd vid - Boom Tubes (still a muffler delete but with a louvered pipe) H pipe with pypes high flow cats welded in, stock headers.
3rd vid - My current setup, mac lt's, mac prochamber, high flow cats, mac mufflers

EDIT: And sorry to everyone who has seen these vids posted about 2000 times by me, just trying to help the kid out.

I am going to have headers and an o/r h pipe, with frpp stingers... Hopefully not too crazy, but I want a nice tone and loudness doesn't bother me too much, just don't want to sound like a truck....lol

Very nice!....and VERY BRAVE my good sir!!! Hahaha! This made me laugh! But I do actually like this combo! And for under $200 it's worth a shot to me. How's the sound inside the car? My current setup has slight drone around 2K rpm but its not unbearable.

Now for the other serious question....any trouble out of the cops?! Lmao!

#23 ·
Yeah I believe it's worth checking out for only $200. Sound in the car isnt too bad with the windows up and music on. I don't think it's annoying though with the windows down, just cus I love the sound. I haven't had any trouble with cops so far. I usually just throw it in Neutral when I go by one just to be on the safe side. I see you live in GA so you shouldnt have to deal with emissions testing, atleast in Savannah I didnt

Yea, emmisions aren't a problem here. I hope "noise pollution" isn't too high on the list either. Lol. Unless someone chimes in and really adds more insight, I believe I'll try the Pypes O/R x-pipe first and see how I like it. I'd like to find someone else around that runs a similar setup, but I can't think of anyone. I'd like to hear it in person. Sound clips just never do exhaust 100% justice.

Thanks for all your help though! :)

i have the slp loudmouth deletes and at first it had the horrible drone if cruising around 2k rpms. i added a cut in frpp x-pipe and it's been sweet sweet sounds ever since.

now that i have the sc'er on i'm changing to mac lt's and o/r prochamber just to be safe. i don't want to risk clogging the cats and killing the engine. i still have my stock mufflers and i would almost bet that i'll be installing them again when i do install the LT's and prochamber

Psycho bob...do you like how the SLP's sound with the x-pipe? Is that particular one catted or O/R? I've heard a lot of people say that their catted o/r pipes clogged after around 10,000 miles. Another reason I want to go with an o/r midpipe

#34 ·
the frpp x only cuts out the stock H and replaces it. you will still have the stock cats. i have 46k miles on my stock cats. biggest reason i'm going with an o/r pipe is because i now have a sc'er. the chances of blowing up your engine w/ a clogged cat and f/i is much greater than if you are n/a

I have a catted Bassani X pipe and slps and I love the sound. I had the same setup you have with just stock and now with the catted x and it is so much better now. Vids do not do the slp justice. I had slps in my 2000 gt mustang and now my 05 I just love em. I know a guy named tony on here that had the magnaflow catted x too and it sounds about the same. You still have loud but no raspy. Only when its engine is cold will you get some trumpeting. Otherwise it sounds like sex. One question though. How long have you had them on for? It takes some time to break them in and it will not be as loud at first but then after a little while they get louder. I drove around when I got them on my 2000 and was like WTF but then like a week later I was like ohhhhh yeahh yeahh.
