I am currently running a 331 setup and making 318 RWHP 340 RWTQ, Mod list is as follows:
Pro-street shortblock by CHP, main cap girdle, AFR 185 heads, BBK SSI intake, Z303 cam, underdrive pulleys,Compucar 150hp nitrous(not currently connected), MSD 6-AL, MSD billet dist., roller rockers, BBK chrome equal length headers, chrome alt.,Fluidyne radiator, dual elec fans, Professional Products 75mm throttle body, Professional Mass Air, h-pipe w/ Mac exhaust, Super heavy duty T-5 trans by Pro-Motion Performance, Pro-5.0 shifter w/ Hurst handle, Ram clutch and flywheel, 3.73 gears

Im wondering what other 331 setups are making Naturally Aspirated, i eventually want to go forced induction but for the time being i want to see what i can make N/A.

I've covered the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds @ 110 and run a fairly consistent 12.8 @ 111 on a granny launch (leaving like you would from a stoplight) so im fairly pleased, but i have an addiction to horsepower and speed.

Any setup ideas? Recomendations? Heads? Intake Manifold? Cam?

Seems as thought your combo is a little week as of the moment, I know my buddy Paul Riva is close to 400 with a combo off his 302 setup and should make 400+ with the new heads he just put on.

Here is what he was running.
NA 331ci with 8.89:1 comp and AFR 165's, FTI cam, Holley systemax
380RWHP/380RWTQ STD
374RWHP/374RWTQ SAE

He just added a set of competition AFR 185s and this is all with low compression. He plans on adding a turbo into the mix after he gets it peaked out N/A. With the new heads he should be real close to 400 N/A

Each dyno will give you a different reading so I wouldn't worry about hp/tq #'s too much. Start concentrating more on your 60ft times and once you get those down start spraying it and you will be well into the 11's. What tires and suspension componets do you have?

Normally I would agree with not paying attention to dyno numbers, but with the low numbers you are getting I would get it dynoed somewhere else cause those numbers seem really low

Swap out to an "F" cam and throw a turbo on there.
Done. Put you in the low 11's no problem

How you like that SSI intake ? ........ I hated mine.

ive heard numerous people who have gone w/ the ssi be more than let down. definetly look at trickflow intake manis or holley systemax. as for a cam, best ones are always custom grind but they're more expensive. trickflow makes a good cam. as for suspension look at some upper and lower control arms, kit can be picked up from upr relatively inexpensive. nitto 555r's or mickey thompson e/t streets are good tires.

Ive got a Kit from UPR in mind for the suspension, upper & lower control arms, subframe connectors, A arms, K-member, thats the first stuff going on, then i wanna do what someone else was talking about earlier in this post. Ive just wanted to see what i can make N/A before i go turbo.

Im ordering a Dart block when i get back from the sandbox, ive already got forged internals, im just still running the 2 bolt main block, and i want to eventually make some serious horsepower so i want something that isnt gonna split down the middle.

Any recomendations on where to go for a good custom grind? Im leaning towards the trick flow intake, ive just heard too any good things about them, figure i'll give it a shot. How about heads? Would anyone recomend going larger? Maybe the AFR 205's? I read something on another forum, i'll try to post a link, something about AFR making a new set of heads 190cc's i think? I'll try to repost said info here....

I know a guy with a similiar setup to yours. Has a 331, afr 185, trick flow intake, not sure on the cam. He ran a 12.0 at 110mph in 90 degree weather. He drives the **** out of his car. He launches at 5000 rpm with a set of et streets. I wouldn't change anything on your car right now get a set of sticky tires and see what she'll do.

ive got suspension, tires, and rear end all on the list of things to beef up, then i will be willing to launch at 4,500 or 5,000, im pretty sure i can get down into low 12's easily if not high 11's with my setup, if i had the suspension and tires for it, i know a guy who has almost the exact same setup, makes about 10 more hp, but has got the suspension and tires to back it up and he run's high 10's, hes also got no back seat, and is quite a bit lighter.

But my problem is i will always want more, so im trying to see what i can get out of my 331 N/A. I really think im gonna get a custom grind cam and a new intake manifold, havent decided on the heads yet...we'll see...

So, i return to this post, lots of changes, just got all the parts on the car, kinda went to town on it, i didnt change my block, still the stock block, but i went to a Holley Systemax and a tune and picked up 27hp! Sittin at 345 RWHP & 358RWTQ now.

I put on the UPR suspension kit i was talking about, subframe connectors, and a cage, had someone rebuild my 8.8 rear end with 33 spline axles, went to all around coil overs, tubular k-member, really went to town with my suspension. Also replaced my T5 with a TKO600, threw on the Mickey Thompson ET Streets, so im pretty excited to see what shes capable of! Ive ordered a set of long tubes so hopefully i can pick up a few more ponies from that, not to mention my 100 shot of nitrous. This should be fun, just gotta break in my tranny and bang some gears and we'll see what she runs!

The 185's should put you where you want to be on the power range. I'd loose the cam and intake also. Maybe look into Holley Systemax and a Comp's XFI cam atleast, if you have the little bit extra it cost, call Jay Allen @ Camshaft Innovations or Ed Curtis @ Flow Tech Induction.
