Ok I want to add ABS to my 94 Mustang 3.8L Convertible. Im needing to know how the brake lines are ran. Im also Needing like a picture if possible or diagram explaining where each brake line goes to and from where it came from. Also does anyone know where I can get the gear or what ever its called for the rear. It the piece that has the teeth on it that the wheel sensor counts to tell how fast your going. I heard that they just sell that piece that you can install. The front is already taken care of and has them now. I also already have the ABS unit and speed sensors for the front only. I already replaced my wire harness with the one that has the who connections for the ABS unit.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, Well I can speculate what you will need and no more. My advice would be to learn to drive the car properly without the ABS. Mine does not have ABS as well and to me knowing how to drive a car without ABS just makes you a better driver and I frequently do Auto-X events and do about 2 track days a year.

That being said I have a Ford Factory service manual for the 03 Models and I don't even think you should make an attempt at doing this. You would need a wheel speed sensor for each wheel, ABS wheel speed sensor reluctors on each wheel (Because Ford probably didn't fit yours with these sense it didn't need them.) Then you will need to know where all of the wiring and cables plug into. So right there your over 300 dollars in components. Now all that stuff I know you will need. Someone might need to correct me but you might need the ABS Hydraulic unit and if that happens to be the case then your going to probably want to go to a junk yard because a brand new one cost about 900 dollars. I could be wrong about needing that part but I don't know.

Not an easily added thing. pcm flash, pump module, a couple more miles of wire and brake lines, sensors, hubs, axles, etc. You would spend more in parts than the car would sell for privately.

Best thing you can install is a properly setup driver mod. I've driven for many many years, well before the advent of ABS brakes. I can stop quicker, without locking up, than in a car with ABS. It's all about finesse and pressure. Hell, downshift if you have to.

Ohh I thought i already stated this but I have the wire harness already installed from the 96 mustang that had the ABS I also have his PCM already installed and working in my car. the hydraulic pump I have that also and all the speed sensors. the front hubs already have the wheel speed sensor reluctors since i replaced them. All I need it the ones for the back wheels and the brake lines themselves. I just need to know how the brake lines are ran and how they are hooked up to the hydraulic pump and the master cylinder. I was lucky I got all this for free from a buddy of mine that stripped his mustang and made it a hot rod.

In case people don't know, this is the "driver mod" related to not having abs.

fb93 thanks for the link that will definitely help. Now with what ssss said "I am sure you could probably find some images of how it's ran by doing some searching. " That's the whole reason I posted on the form. I need some help tracking down the information I need to put ABS in a 94 that didn't come with ABS what connections i'll need what adapters if any needed and wiring exc exc. I tried Google & Bing I also tried re wording my question all different kinds of ways and still found nothing.

Here is another. This was for a Fox swap that used a custom mounted ABS, but still has lots of good stuff in it. Its the only 'how-to' i found so far.

The 94-04 Mustang Haynes manual covers some of the wiring. Barely. This is a colorized Haynes pic, from allfordmustangs.

I can only assume your dash would have a place for that light and you would just need the bulb, but i dont own a 94-04 (just the Haynes) so i dont know what else you need to do with the wiring or where to run it.

Well I did find out some things just updating the form. I would also need to purchase a new power brake booster and Master Cylinder for the ABS system. I was wondering anyone that has a 94-98 mustang with the ABS mounted in front of the vehicle right next to the radiator. Could you take some pictures of your brake lines running from the ABS unit to the Master Cylinder and Brake Booster. Thanks I really appreciate it a lot.

SO!!!!!! I recently did a brake over haul on my brake system. I replaced all the rotors and brake calipers. Also the master cylinder and the power booster. Plus I changed all the brake pads and hardware kit. After doing all this I found out that if I wanted to add ABS on my vehicle. That Ill need to change my power booster and master cylinder that i just purchased to ones that are made for ABS. :'( I wish i would have looked into that before I made all the purchases. But on a positive note even though now I wont be adding ABS to my vehicle my car is able to stop quite well now. I have better control when braking and able not just not press the brakes as hard when coming to a stop so the tires dont skid. So I guess I just needed to repair the mustang brake system

I am pretty sure you never really mentioned that your brakes just sucked in general. You were scared you were going to lock them up and hydroplane or something like that. The bright side though is you get to learn how to drive a car without any ABS.

Yeah I didn't think my brakes were that bad before but when i use to put on the brakes my car would end up locking the brakes and the tires would get eaten up. With the brake overhaul I did It just stops and doesn't lock up the brakes. I mean it also feels like I have better control because if I push a little harder on the brake pedal. I could almost feel that the tires where about to start sliding and also hear the little chirp then I would back off slightly so i wouldn't lock the wheels up.
