Anyone ever thought of doing a stock eliminator build

Just like the title says...

For those who don't know, stock eliminator allows no cylinder head porting (Even on E7s), no intake porting and you have to stay 302 cubic inches with a stock lift cam.

Now I wasn't thinking of doing his exactly...You cant exactly daily drive a 25x/26x @.050 cam...Especially with ridiculous gears and lots of compression.

I'm thinking about doing something similar...Stock heads/intake but ported...Solid roller cam with good valvetrain and eagle rods/CP pistons with about 11.0:1 and 4.30 gears. The reason being, because its cool and its within my budget/timeframe. I can finish it by the end of the year and ill be going faster than my current combo.

My co-worker built a 92 hatch with a stock crank, eagle rods, 13:1 compression, stock unported heads (had a little bowl work done), stock unported intake, stock lift cam, 24 pound injectors and a tuneable computer. It weighed 3200 with him in it and the best it went was an 11.90 @ 110mph with a 1.53 sixty foot. It also had 5.13 gears and a 5500 stall.

My project will be similar to what you're saying, but I don't know what compression I'll be running. I agree, these types of builds are very cool.

So you want to remove your edelbrock heads and put stock E7 back on ? Hmmmm well if thats what you want to do then go for it. Kinda of a waste money on that dyno tune you just got though. I thought you worked at a speed shop, i take it that theres no employee discount that would yield you a nice short block and nicer set of heads ?

Yeah I know it's kind of a waste... But it was great while it lasted :)

I do work at a shop that builds engines... And I actually do get a decent discount. Only a few bucks more than cost. I could do a nice Dart 363W short block with an oil pan/pickup/cam/timing chain/timing pointer/bolts etc for 4 grand. I can also get nice new AFR 195/205 heads for 1,550. It's just that a 302 with rods/pistons and stock ported heads will be a lot cheaper than that.

I know there's always the "just save a little more and blah blah blah" but that wouldn't work for me. If I spent the coin on the bottom end, I'm going to damn well use it. Meaning that I will push it further than a stock 302 block can handle because, why did I get it? See what I'm getting at? In order for me to use good parts (in my eyes) I need to use them to their full potential. If I did a 363 with nice heads I would expect 9s out of it on motor. That's too expensive for me. I mean, I COULD do it, but I don't want to sit for a year and a half just collecting parts.

Where I'm from, when we race each other, we get charged for what we have.. Meaning that if I had a Dart block 347/363 on motor and it ran mid 11s, it wouldn't matter because it has a dart block so everyone would think it's WAY faster than that and I wouldn't be able to get a fair race. So I think my stock stuff plan would net some races AND it would be pretty cool on top of it.

Believe me, I've looked into the more expensive builds already and it's just too much damn money.. It's one thing if I could just dump a 7k engine in my car and go 9s, but then I need a built rear which would cost 700ish and I would also need a tranny which would cost 3000+ all said and done as well as a better fuel system, suspension etc.

Haha these won't be stock E7s...They will have nice port work done along with a slick valve job and good bowl work. Possible bigger valves... Maybe not.

Not too bad honestly. I have a stock eliminator guy in the shop who will help me so I don't have to snoop for every piece of info on this stuff.

11s with stock **** isn't slow IMO but I see what you're saying... It's still 11s

LOL, here we go again. I thought you were doing a 347? What is your main goal with your car? To race it? Have a combo that people will think it's slow and show them up? If you want something different, why not throw a s/c on your car now. Or go with an explorer topend with a s/c. Or do a SVO swap, haha.

Since I've been working here there's so many ****ing options :lol

I already have Edelbrock heads and an Explorer intake so a blower with a new cam would definitely get me to the point of breaking the block.

Point of the car is going to be to race people and make money doing it. Can't make money if people won't race me.

The v3 doesnt require you to tap the oil pan.

The problem with your theory in regards to making people think you slower then you really are by giving them the impression that you motor is stock ( by visual appearances) ..... is thats only going to work a hand full of times. Once the word gets out then it doesnt matter if your running E7, trick flow, AFR or edelbrocks, the cat with be out of the bag sorta speak. Unless you plan on traveling the country trying to hustle people and dont plan on staying to long, i dont see this working.

Grudge racing is a little different...But I still see your point.

At this point I think I'm just gonna go with the cheapest way to go 10s; blower.

Holy crap! On corral I can snag a complete blower kit (S trim, head unit, all brackets/hoses/pulleys etc) PLUS most people had the kits with a powerpipe/injectors/MAF already for under 2 grand! Add another 1800 or so and ill also have a new cam and a tune. I didn't know it was that cheap for a blower...

Ive been watching those same kits. Ya theres deals out there right now. Theres always a flood of parts out a tax return time.

And from my job I can get a fully assembled 363 SHP Dart block (crank/rods/pistons/rings/bearings/rear seal/timing cover/timing chain/timing cover seal, pan/pickup/pump) for 3500 bucks. I would just need to have it machined and a friend of mine and I would put it together.

Seems like a fair price. Then all youll need is the top end. I hope you dont plan on putting your heads and intake on a 363 cuz that would be crazy

I'm going to look into the vortech. That's why I priced out that short block haha.

I might just sell my stuff once I take it off and then look for new heads and an intake.

Probably something small-ish just to keep cost down. Plus 363 cubes and boost will make up for any induction losses.

Nahh. Turbo = No fair race EVER.

When people see a car with a turbo they think it's the fastest thing out there. Can't grudge a turbo car fairly near me.

I would just make sure whatever you do will make you happy. Whether you have E7 heads or P&P Twisted Wedge, it's the fastest who gets laid and the fastest that gets paid!
