don't our cars have chains from the factory? and if so, where did you find those gears?

 

they do, havent installed those yet. heres a pic when i tore the engine down. the chain gear slides over the top of the cam gear

i lubed it up before install, machine shop gave me this stuff

if your talking about how long the build will last, hopefully real soon i only have a few weeks to get everything done. yeah i got a vortech v-1 system but i dont plan on putting it on till the engine is broken in a bit.

 

made some progress today. had to check the clearances for the crank sooo

put some bearing guard on first

cleaned up the 4.2 crank

one of the holes the machine shop drilled out to balance it

then placed the crank in the block

put the bearings on the main caps

used plasti-gage to check the clearance

everything checked out and was within tolerances, puttin in the pistons tomarrow

stock, might be a lil higher because the heads were decked. i have a compression tester, so ill be able to give exact numbers later.

not sure if there hyper or not the engine shop orderded em, the rods are stock reconditoned

Those are in fact hyper pistons.

How much do those pistons weight? They look a lot heaver than stock. Did you get a balance sheet from shop.

 

not sure about the weight, but i did pay an extra $160 to get ot balanced at the shop, didnt get a sheet but im sure i could ask for one.

You had better check the head gasket installation. It sure looks like you
interchanged the right and left head gaskets. The blocked off water passages
are supposed to be in the front so the water will circulate through the block. If it's wrong as I believe it is here the engine will overheat very badly.

 

Is it going to the dyno N/A?

 

yessir, not gonna slap the blower on till i get back, around december-ish

Are those just the stock valve covers painted silver? That looks pretty sweet and is definately better than paying for other valve covers.

 

yep, stockers painted in 'aluminum' duplicolor engine paint, aftermarket valve covers are stupid expensive
