your going big for being new to mustangs. but go big or go home. i think that you will get the most bang for your buck going with a 408 stroker.

Yea i figure with all the terrible economy and the talk of getting rid of gas motors i mise well get my dream car done before its too late. Also i went from a minimum wage job to an $80,000+ job so i am a little excited to get this going lol.

408 stroker....will i still have room for a/c and power steering under the hood? lol

and yeah a 351 block isnt much bigger then a 302 so all your accessorys will fit

cowl hood is on my list of things, not a huge one though. What about the 408 stroker? will a/c and powersteering fit with that beast? I mean room inside the engine bay wise lol.

elaborate on the job change...

yeah there might be some small fabrication needed but there are alot of them out there i am sure there is a write up on it.

Hood clearance on 351W swap depends on intake selection.

Swap is easy and yes all accessories fit in stock location.
I even fit a pair of turbos in my engine bay too.

You could copy my build and make insane and reliable power.
DIY twin turbo 351W was fairly easy to do, if a bit time consuming.

You could do it for about $8-10,000 for motor and turbos.
Need about $5-10,000 in chasis and drivetrain upgrades though.

Job situation is i worked in a warehouse at Lordco Auto parts and now work for C.P Rail, conducter on freight trains. Im a trainee at the moment but in about 2 months i will be qualified so then i get the nice pay. Also because of crappy gas prices, i own a 2004 jeep liberty that isnt the best on gas so i may sell that and get a cheap little vehicle to go back and forth to work so theres about $10,000 i can put towards the mustang right there.

Also i do live in Canada so does anyone know any good places to get these engine parts from in B.C Canada? I have a local shop that maybe able to do the motor for me. I dont have the tools or skills to do it. If i cant find a smaller local shop then i may have to fork out the extra $$$$ and go to killer customers and have them do my motor work.

But im sure this shop can do mine. Did a buddy of mines chevelle with a 454 600hp street car. But they are into the older muscle cars so hopefully they can still do a early 90s foxbody.

Is there any reason why some of you guys dont like the turbo or S/C setups?

Also big point, if i put $8000 into a motor, i wont have a lot left for drivetrain upgrades. So maybe a 306 and turbo maybe more cost efficient so i can still upgrade the rest of the drivetrain to properly support it?

no they are nice its just expensive and getting it tuned right is a PITA but once its good its good.

they should be able to do your car the 302's and 351's are real common motors and have been making them since i think the 70's or longer

a turbo setup with supporting mods done right is by no means cheap

yea i guess. Damn oh well. 408 sounds nice.

Will a 408 and drivetrain to support it stay around the $8000 range and making 500+ rwhp?

your gonna have to do alot of the work - machine work yourself and try to find used parts where u can

Thats fine, im not rushed to do this, if it takes longer then expected then so be it. And if i have to wait and save up more for the better quality parts then so be it. I got the impression this could be done easy for about $8000 at the beginning of the thread lol. Initially i was told a 306 and a turbo or S/C for about $6000 and i have 500hp.

It seems the more posts in the thread, the more money people say it will cost. If it gets too costly then it may just be worth it to get a cobra terminator and go 500hp there. I thought it could get a foxbody to 500hp for cheaper then a cobra lol

8k to make 500HP and plant it reliably is going to be really tough (unless you use nitrous). Impossible if you have someone do the work for you. An 03/04 cobra is going to run you a LOT more than an 8k budget anyway. I haven't looked lately but they were going for about 30k last time I checked.

naah 8k should be enough for the majority of the build after that its 100 here 200 there but 8k will be enough to get the motor and everything u need to have it running and driving u proly wont have any extra for suspension though.

100 here and 200 there adds up pretty quick. Not to mention w/o suspension mods, you're going nowhere with 500HP at the track.

I'm also still skeptical about rebuilding a t5 to handle that kind of power. On the street it will hold fine but after so many launches on the track with slicks, its going to go sooner or later. Mine is shot from my engine that ran like crap and only street driving. The trans, if you want it to hold power and not have to worry about the next launch being your last constantly, is going to be about 2k of that budget alone if you stick with a 5sp.

Yea you can make and drive 500HP for 8k, but things are going to start breaking at the track if you run it with slicks.
