Hey dudes

I boit mt 01 4.6 with sime janky poeced together cai. Its at the point where I have 1 lb of duct tape around the two pipes connecting them together and the wet exhaust piece they used to slip on with hose clamps is broke and the hoses running to the unit cant be routed properly bc the connectors are at the filter and and not after the maf. How do you guys feel aboit those ebay $41 rolled steel intakes with nice oiled hige filters vs a 200+$ plastic unit from kand n or s n b? A long time ago on my f150 an independent company showed the kandN fpik robbed power vs giving it. . O I have a bad taste aboit these high $ units. I dont jabe a big bidget either.. but im getting tired of looking at this thing

Um... Not exactly sure what you're saying or asking but IMO, it doesn't matter which CAI you buy, none of them do much for power, so might as well get one that's cheap and looks good to you

Those cheap ebay ones work just fine. I had one on my old Mustang. Difference between that one and the $200 one I have on my current Mustang are purely cosmetic.
With the higher priced units, you're mostly paying for the name and cosmetics, as the functional differences are miniscule at best, unless there is a big difference in dimensions, which there usually is not.

The stock unit really isn't that bad so if you have it - I'd just throw it back on to save money. But if you really need a CAI or don't have the stocker, why not just go with one of the forum vendors like AM or LRS? They are priced low and lots of people run them. Quality and support is good with them. The cheap Ebay one's work fine though too. Your choice.

just get an Airaid, something made of good quality and best filter on the market. dont cheap out on that metal stuff it tends to rust very quickly especially if you live in a climate with higher humidity. Airaid is alot larger than those bbk and sr pperformance ones filter is huge

Larger doesn't mean better. The engine will only take in as much air as it is set up for. The real restrictions are in the manifold and heads. Unless the CAI is a smaller diameter than the ID of the throttle body... There's no real restriction there. On a stock or lightly modded motor... A big $300+ intake tube is like ripping up your money and shoving it in your ass.

i mention the airaid mostly because of the quality, most modded people will set up there car with more mods, if you buy better now you will not have to redo it later. i had a leaky rusted bbk before i swapped in the airaid and i did notice a difference, but then again i have every bolt on part except cams and heads.

Sorry. I post from my phone. Amd sometimes my sausage fingers misspell and I dont proof read. I know this is such a noob question, I've had a lot of different systems over time. I had a custom ARIA brand carbon fiber short ram on a 5.7l hemi that gave me some extra hp n tq.. about 6hp amd 15tq... n a cai that robbed me of both on a 5.4l f150 I had, and that was a k&n FPIK! The short ram really increased the sound of the exhaust even on a fully stock exhaust system. On the 4.6l do you guys prefer the CAI or short ram? I like the sound of the short ram, but im not lookin for big hp here... im happy with what I got, but the previous dealership has some hack job cai in there that I needed to duct tape together so it wouldn't fall apart, its nasty and I need it replaced. Lets weigh in some personal opinions!

I'd go with the short ram. The only real benefits from cold air intakes are less restriction. (Short rams have same benefit)
There's more airflow under the hood than people think, so at highway speeds there's really no difference in intake temp from engine bay vs. fenderwell, except when stuck in traffic on a hot day, and who needs a small increase in power then anyway?

Short ram has the benefit of not being a pain in the ass to change the filter.
