Ok. I'd like to introduce my car. Its a 2003 V6 and a few engine mods. I just got some shorty BBK headers. I know long tubes sould better but I got them. They are getting installed this weekend with a help of a friend. Now I NEED the Mustang pro's advices. I've ask many and watched several videos. I ofcourse don't want a Honda but could maybe try duel cherry bombs. I need an exhaust combo that won't break the bank that will go with the BBK's. Flow 44's and 40's are always a nice choice but my exhaust as of right this second is stock with it dumped. I would like your input all everything. I know the GT's just laugh when V6's are messed with, lets just say that mine will keep up with a stock GT. I didn't want to dig for a past thread so I'd hope to get some help. It will be dumped for now, turning out. with true duels... Maybe taking the cats off and getting the MIL eliminators. Thanks MM.

Don't go with cherry bombs. Too ricer imo. We get enough **** for having V6s. Thrush Welds, Flowmasters, SLP, and MAC are all good brands. If you're just getting the mufflers and not redoing the midpipe while you're at it, it won't break the bank.

I know everyone here knocks glass packs all the time but I have a single glass pack bolted off the y pipe with a dump at the rear axle and it sounds pretty nice. Glass packs are nice because they're cheap and if you get a longer one, maybe 25-30 in long then it will give you a nice deep tone. Glass packs that sound like crap are the shorter 12 in to 18 in ones.

I have true duals with glass packs on my car. And it sounds amazing! I get compliments all the time. I mean it is all his personal opinion, as long as you like the sound of your own car then you will be happy. I would recommend youtube or google and type in v6 exhaust and see which one you like best. Keep in mind exhaust sounds way better in person no matter what the video sounds like.

Will it now?

Just go original 40 flows and call it done.

dont make make your goal to make it sound just like another exhaust. Make it sound loud , deep and to your likeing. My vote is flow 40's if you want it to sound more like a stock gt, but I would go with flow 44's if you want it to sound a tad bit more agressive

WORD!!! and AGREED with te 44's part. my dad has a super 44's set up with devorced duals......let me tell ya it may not be loud at the high rpms' like the x pipes and 40's on a stang but it sounds epic!!!!!!!!!!! deap and very well....old school later 60's early early 70's mustangs...( 99 f 150 K&N intake kit no cats, and he wont let my car go catless lol) at low lvl rpms it low tone(not even close to ricey nice idle rumble) so bottom line ITS YOUR CAR SO LET IT REPRESENT YOUR PERSONALITY!!!!!!!! lol if ppl say it sounds...or mabey it could sound.....or you need to.....tell them to go F*** em selves and get there own car and do it

so ya your car do what please you everyone on this site will agree to that but if it came down to persoanl option like matt said super 44's h pipe is my fav.

If you want something a little more on the subtle side until you get on it, check out thrushs. they have a good rumble to them at idle and cruising speeds, then when you get on them they get a pretty good sound to them.

If you definition of "sound best on these cars" is: "a car sounding similar to an import with 4 cylinders, and a large 'canister' style muffler.

Original 40s , prochamber , with long tubes is about as good as it gets.

44s even broken in sound a bit (weak) behind a car with original 40s.

+1 on ^ cuz you said you will be able to keep up with a gt? or were you meaning sound?

Watch this video. Its my exhaust WOT. I have glasspacks. Don't get then if you're not using cats... sounds like ****. listen.

this is all the owners opinions, because one person may like one sounding exhaust better than the other? and he has not even posted in awhile, so either he has exhaust or just has not been on. but hist best bet would be to listen to the exhaust thread at the top and see which one he likes best.

I've been very busy... Sorry for not posting. I know yall are all talking about listening to videos but VERY few of the are V6 Mustangs with BBK shorties with different exhaust combinations. From headers, to mid pipes, to mufflers, to even the tips make a difference. Its ENDLESS combos. I was just in hopes that maybe some of you might have tried this. I'm getting this done in about 3-5 weeks. INCOME TAX my friends.

#24 ·
Well there are a lot of variables like you said, but for the most part if you listen to styles of mufflers they should sound pretty similar. As far as your shorties they will just help clear up the sound a little bit. And why can't you reveal your setup? You could reveal it now and then post up some time slips.

Ok... I'm looking online fore a x-pipe and they all say GT or Cobra... Do I just get them anyways? I'm going to get my headers instilled ofcourse but I'm going with 2 1/2 pipe from headers to a x pipe to 2 Flow 44's. So if I'm taking off that gay y-pipe then I just get an x pipe like this:
mustang x pipe - Google Product Search
I'm so lost now. So If I just get this then I'm good to go? I think I'm just getting one set of cats taken off where I csan pass inspection and where my car doesn't sound like gas...

#27 ·
Agreed ^ or you can go just divorced duals and save some money, or just have a shop fab up a hpipe for you

#29 ·
An x pipe will work, but it will sound very ricey. It's not recommended for our engines unless you like sounding like an import. I'm sure it does flow better than an h pipe too. Straight pipes are my favorite. And if you don't want the cats you can have them removed (at legal risk). You'll just have to find a shop that's willing to do that if you choose to have it done.

exactly on the ^. If it were me and you want to do your exhaust, I would just cut the front cats off, then go with longtubes, 2.5 inch piping and the flowmasters.
