I get complaments from strangers about my car & the common question ALWAYS comes up... "Does your hood scoop work?" OR "How is it connected to your intake??"

I read some past threads about making the scoop functional, some had no problems making it work, some had their scoops break off during high speeds, some say its a waste of time.

I think it would be awesome if it actually worked! I was jus curious if there were any new updates or ideas out there

not to mention all the weather that will get in when it rains and ****. I think if you want a function hood scoop its a good idea to just get a mach one.

Waste of the hour it takes? That fake honeycomb BS is so much of a pain when washing/detailing the car anyway. You can plumb the hole in the hood to route water away from the engine anyhow.

^ only a waste of time if you never done it, I can tell you its not a waste of time, I've driven to the track on on 90 degree days and open the hood and the plenum is much cooler then before the mod, and after two years with my scoop open the dirt is not that bad and rain water never get in !

This is a pic when I was almost done the mod, drilled out the grill and I glued the scoop down with RTV silicone, its been tested to 130.

^See my scoop is completely bolted down (can't tell if yours is lol). You think if I do this mod, and add some loctite to the threads where it bolts down, I'd be ok? Also when you said you drilled out the grille, you mean the "fake" holes in the honeycomb you drilled out?

Yes my scoop is factory so it is bolted down, I did not used any loctite on the treads that hold down the scoop and the bolts are nice and tight, and yes I drilled out the honeycomb !

If you plan on doing it, get a dremel tool, remove the scoop, tape off the hood where you plan on cutting and have at it, and like I said I used RTV silicone around the scoop then carefully placed the scoop on the hood and bolted it down !

Ok cool. Thanks for the tips. You thinking adding Loctite to the threads that holds the scoop on would be a good idea for extra insurance?

i always wanted to make mind functional with the blower. But i want the air going in the scoop to go straight to the blower.

Had mine opened for about a year and got tired of it raising while driving 70-80 down the highway. I put the honey comb back in it and closed it off.

The side of the scoop started to rip also.

The only functional use I saw from it was, I was ablw to cool my motor at the track without raising the hood.

I dont have any underside pics of the scoop at the moment. I formed a pc of 5/16 aluminum rod to the contour of the scoop. I measured the distance from the hood to the bottom of the scoop and cut another pc of aluminum rod, drilled and tapped it and then welded it in the middle of the first pc that i made. I screwed the brace to the hood using the screw from the honeycomb. I put 3M VHB tape on the bottom side of the scoop and set it in place. I then pulled sthe scoop back off and applied more tape to the bottom side of the brace sandwiching it between the two layers of VHB tape
