Hey guys. I like to drag race but so far I have only been doing it on my bike. I would like to race my car every now and then and was wondering what gearing would be best for 1/4 mile. But remember that it is my daily driver because my toy is my bike so I don't want to absolutely slaughter my top end. Thanks guys.

4.10's period. You COULD go 4.30's ,but I think the 4.10s are more daily friendly for some who doesn't wanna go crazy. They are way different than your stock,so you will be shifting more.

Dont fear the gear. Buy a rebuild kit if you have a lot of miles on your car. Like $80

BTW - Anytime your askin for help or opinions ,you need to let us know ,what you drive,5spd or auto ,mileage ,currents mod's etc. The more we know about you the easier to help.

Well that just about sums up this thread. Fryrice, is exactly correct IMHO.
Like he said and Ive said it before myself. " DONT FEAR THE GEAR"!

if its a daily driver i would seriously consider 3.73s. they will be a big improvement over stock and still good on the highway. if you plan on racing the car a lot 410s are the way to go or 430s

well, i have a 98 GT and i will eventually twin turbo it. should i get 4.10s or get 3.73s cause that's what i heard you have to have with a poweradder
3.73s should work for ya.

Sonic ,the 4.10 really arent that bad ,and they give you a lot more punch. You get used to them IMO. But you make a valid point alos.

A/T = 4.10

M/T = 3.73

(For D/D applications, where having a 1st gear is essential to driving)

gears

Just did a post, have a 96 GT auto, 4:10's are fine, except it shifts into o/d about 300 feet before the traps at the 1/4 mile, the a/t shfted at 56-5800 1-2 2-3, but they automatically shift into o/d from 3rd at 5000, which with a 26 " tire is 100 yards or so short of the 1/4. Possibly a shift kit would cure that.

4.10 all the way. There is a reason it is so popular.

Also, first gear is still used on my manual. Granted I'm out of it by 20 and like 4000pm, but it is used just like any other gear. How high did you wind first gear with your stock gears? It is a "get moving" gear around town. Also, with my 4.10 I can leave in second and it feels like my old 3.27 first.

Not to mention while a power adder is ideal with a 3.73 / 3.55, a 4.10 is definitely still something you could pull off. Any higher and you might as well just sit in a waterpit and spin.
