Get up and Go Problems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright Iv been thinking something was wrong with my car since i put the tune and intake on it, thought i fixed it with a MAF problem but now i def know there is something wrong after driving a friend of mines car and hitting his throttle made the car get up and go instantly.

I have a 2012 GT 6MT Tune JLT CAI and Boss Intake.

I took the car to the track over the weekend and did a 12.7 hooking up jsut fine and shifting just fine....i did a 12.8 stock.........

Problem 1: Traction control turned itself on around the 8th mile mark.....why?!

Problem 2: My issue is when I well, stomp on it and shift gears.
When i shift into a gear it seems like the car loses power when i get back on the gas. Also when i start the car up it and start driving normally the car while accelerating loses power then gets it back so it feels like im tapping the throttle slightly.

Anyone else have any similar issues or hear anything like it?

I picked up my car from the dyno shop last night. he has a 2012 Mustang Gt with a vortech kit on it, and he said alot of the tuning for the 2012's are messed up. The tune for a 2011 wouldnt work on a 2012. The tune might be your issue. Ask your tuner to send you over a new tune or see if there is an updated one.

Did you have Traction Controll Off or one of the other weird settings?

TCOff if the only one that will let me chirp third and fourth.

Yeah, I vote tune.

Im thinking about having LUND do my tune. You like your tunes?
I mean with that time how can you not haha. I have the boss intake and cai my best time is 12.3.....I suck!! haha

Make sure you hold the brake and hold the tcs button until it turns completely off. My car would interfere really bad stock if I hit the rev limiter or tried to do a No lift shift.. Still does a Tad if my traction control is on... But with everything off I can rip gears and the car just moves. Even if I'm spinning on the limiter it keeps going.

What do you mean the traction control turned itself on? Did it start to flash on the console?

I think he's just tapping the button once instead of holding it down to turn everything off...

Sport mode turns everything on...

While parked, hold the brake and traction control button for 5 seconds. It should turn off. This will unlock everything and the car can no longer control any input; it's all you.

What RPM are you shifting at? If you're not shifting at 7400-7500, you will lose time with a Boss Intake.

I know when i was stock, if i didnt turn it completely off and tried a no lift shift or bumped the rev limiter at all it would literally shut down for about a second then come back alive. Now with the bama tune it only does it if I'm getting a little sideways or something. Mine is a Late build 12 though. Hold button 5 seconds and I can do whatever I please lol..... (on a closed course that is)

Ive never had a problem with it kicking on while hammering it, but when t/c is turned completely off I can rip through the gears and I definitely feel like im getting more power to the ground.

Does it give any indication when everything is off? I just tap it and the traction control(off) light comes on. I haven't noticed any nanny aid, the way I have been doing it.

Push it and traction control goes off, hold the brake and tap the button twice turns on sport mode a modified traction control, hold the brake and hold the button for 5 seconds will turn TC off.

No, there's no indication between the 3 except for what the info center tells you upon activation.

thanks for the responses guys.

I turned the car back to stock unhooked the negative battery terminal, let it sit for 5 minutes, then hooked it back up and reloaded the tune. Doesnt seem like it changed at all. Another thing I noticed is the car backfires when i down shift like CRAZY! I know the stype exhaust does that but i mean wow it almost sounds ugly!

I left the t/c on for the run but it was just odd to me for the light to turn on and the car to lose power at the 1/8th mile.

If you left the traction control on and tried to go balls out down the track then it will turn on and limit your power, that's exactly what it is supposed to do to keep you from losing traction. Try holding the brake and then push/hold the traction control button till it says Advance Trac off next time and see if that helps.

OK so i went to the track friday night and did 10 runs total. Yes 10.
my mods are 3.73 gears, cai, tune, boss intake, and MT ET street radials.

Stock i did a 12.90 with my car.

When i had street tires on i was doing a 12.7 with a 2.2 60'

Now that i have the drag radials my best run was a 12.66 with a 1.80 60'

.......that doesnt add up does it????? I mean for the 60' droping that much and still doing a 12.6. I was launching at 5K and hooking but the car would bog out a little on the launch and pick back up.

I just feel like i should pay the money for the Lund tune to get the car where it really should be.

How far off was the mph from the street tire vs. dr runs?

#37 ·
With the 3.73's I'm assuming you're having to shift into 5th before the traps? Also that Boss intake isn't helping you with your current mods. What is your rev limiter set at?

#40 ·
your the 2nd person to tell me that haha, maybe that boss intake wasnt such a good buy.

the limiter is set at 7600 when I ran, didnt have to hit 5th in the 1/4

Since my last post i bit the bullet and bought a Lund tune just to see the difference, it def feels different but havent tracked it yet, thatll be this weekend!

thanks for the help everyone!

I have a 2011 Mustang Gt with the Boss intake, 93 Tune, CAI, Roush Exhaust and I had mine professionally dyno tuned. 432 hp to the rear wheels. I do not have any issues, but yours may sound as a gas air mixture. Need to have it Dyno tuned so they can insure the gas and air stay stable throughout the RPM range. You should also be able to pull better numbers than 12.7 with what you have. Traction has always been an issue when the HP starts getting up there so at 8th I can see some traction being lost especially if in 2nd gear. Ed
