i was looking at their complete front suspension kit. the k looks pretty beefy. just wondering if theyre a good company or not?

I have that kit as well, and it went on with ease, and looked pretty good. The only thing I don't like is that the coilover kit's upper bearings don't have the groove to hold the bearing centered in the upper plate like some of the others. It's fine once you get everything tightened down, but keeping the top washer in place while you slide everything into the strut tower can be an adventure. 2 people and a dab of grease to hold the washer in place helps immensly.

bump! will the granatelli coilover kit move the front suspension ahead 3/4" like the MM front suspension kit?

i was actually hoping that it would. like you said, it centers the wheel more and has better geometry. any clearance issues running a 9" wide wheel up front or none at all? i was researching and its almost exactly the same as the MM k member.

I'm not a Granatelli fan by any means, but if you search their K-Members specifically, you won't find anyone that has one with a problem. It's always lower control arms or some old crap.

Once I found a guy that was road racing for a couple years with the Granatelli, I had no problems buying it, and I don't regret it. It's a nice piece for the money.

Look guys - we took it up the a-s on bad bushings from our suplier - I hear all the chineese BS but the fact is still the same, the bushing came from the same guys in CA that make them for everyone and everyone had the busing problem. We ship about 400 sets a month of the upper and lower control arm kits GMRS7901

We make them for just about every company out there on a private brand bassis

In our hey-day we were doing more like 800 sets. If you get a bad batch of bushing and you ship out 800 sets, that is (800 times 8 bushing in a kit) 6400 chances that you are going to piss off someone

We ate it - and replaced them all:) For all the posts that came out a few years back about this sad affair, you will note there are jsut as many from guys saying GMS stepped up and took care of me.

It is the nature of the beast, when things go right we say nothing but when things go wrong = Hell hath no furry like a Mustang driver scorened:sorry

You will also note I NEVER dodge a call or a post - meaning I do not hide - I just take it one bite at a time

Like this?

First thing to go on is the sleeve

Install the upper spring support.

Next goes a bearing sandwiched between two washers supplied in the kit. There are two sets, one for each side.
Image

And finally, install the bearing cover
Image

With all this in place, raise the a-arms with the floor jack while guiding the strut into the shock tower and up through the new cc plate.

Now the top strut nut can be threaded on and tightened. Once the strut nut is installed you can now go back and tighten the hardware on the cc-plate. This is what the final product should look like up top.

Your pictures show the exact problem. That top washer that sits between the bearing and upper plate is the same size as the hole in the bottom plate, which is obviously larger than the shock shaft. The recess in the bottom plate holds the bearing and lower washer, but the top washer sits above the recess. Therefore, there's nothing holding that washer in place, and it likes to slide out the side instead of staying centered during the install.

There's no recess in the top plate portion, even just a slight ridge to keep the upper washer from moving until it's bolted in place would be extremely helpful.

Oh, and the instructions suck big time. There's no details in them, which could be very tough for someone who's never done an install of one before. I used another company's install instructions to do the install, which is pretty sad, to be honest.

I'm still not even sure if I did the solid rack bushings correctly, since there were absolutely no instructions dealing with them, and they were built differently than the other company's solid rack bushings I have used before. I ended up with aluminum disks left over, and nowhere to put them. It's on there tight, and aligned properly, so I have no clue.

You need to work on your instructions, that's for sure.

I agree we could use a tune up on the installs pics - you get 2 sets of rack bushing - standard and off set - just a another Granatelli perk :D

I understand what you mean about the upper washer and your comment about the groove - it is that way by design - sorry that can't change

If we made the groove deeper - then the thrust cap on top would hit metal to metal - that washer makes it "float" above the bearing ONLY THE THINKNESS OF THE WASHER

The upper washer doesn't go into the groove, only the lower washer and the bearing, the upper washer ends up above the groove. I will take pictures next week when I pull them back out.

I installed a set of the new style UPR coilovers (I think they were UPR, not 100% sure on that), and the upper cap was designed differently, and wasn't wider than the washer and bearing, so both washers and the bearing fit into the recess, and the cap went on the upper washer and did not contact the cap.

I will be swapping to that setup because I don't like the washer just being held in by pressure, and can eventually work it's way out the side if you drive quite a bit. Which is why mine are coming back off in a couple days.
