The temp. dropped alot last night and I had parked with my handbreak on. I can't seem to get it unstuck. I have let the car warm up for an hour and even tried pinging the drums with a wooden mallet but the break wont release. Any suggestions?

There's a TSB on it.

take it to your dealer, they will have to replace the whole E-Brake System.

You can try hot water on the caliper/pad area.
Never use the e-brake. It is an e-brake, not the parking brake. Park your car in 4-5 gear. Only use the e-brake for ....yes, emergencies or extremely steep hills.

Same thing happened to me on the way to the dealership to get my rear defrost fixed (they ended up replacing the entire rear glass). They replaced the cables like Mav said...

Up to you. An emergency brake is a separate brake system in a vehicle for use in case of failure of the regular (hydraulic or air) brakes. If you use to park too often you defeat its pupose and longevity as being a functional e-brake.

Emergency brake or hand brake is just another term for a parking brake...right?

When it is very cold outside, the parking brake should not be used at all, unless you absolutely have to use the brake.

Crawl under the car and locate the parking brake line. Once you have found the line, move it side to side and shake the line. Usually, you will hear a "pop"- this usually works to disengage the parking brake.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

yup the manual says parking brake. Im old at 35 years I guess. The old days it was an e-brake. I still use the tranny when parking. I use 1 or reverse(manual trans). DOtn use 3-4 as i incorrectly advised above. I only use p-brake on hills. The thing about the stang too is that you will accidentaly drive with p-brake on and not even know it. It's that powerful

If you can locate where it is froze up ..usually at a wheel...you can put a nice warm trouble light on it for 10-20 mins and it will thaw out. I moved to Florida to never have to do that again... Good luck

Ditto on the hot water. That might free it up enough for you to get the car to the dealer, assuming it's the pads that are stuck to the rotors, or the calipers that are frozen. It might be something in the parking brake mechanism that is frozen. Or, wait till spring to drive your car like me. sigh. Just kidding. :)
And TD, you ain't old man, I'm 37. We're just non-young is all. lol

Thanks for the help

Well I was feeling under the weather so I had no place to go for the last 3 days and the temp went back up. I did get under the car today but I think it was already un-frozen because it's fine now. I also called my local ford dealer and they said they would fix it free.

On a side note I am useing 1st to park it now.

Go global warming!
