Heads.

I have been looking at heads. What do you guys think about the gt40x heads? They would be going on my bone stock 89 lx.

My next question is this. On American Muscle, they have the 64cc and the 58 i think. Differences? They seem to flow the same, but the 64 is cheaper. What do you think? Good head for the money? I plan on heads, then intake and cam down the road, as i have the money.

the 58s will bump your compression a little and yield you a little more power on the stock motor

They are not a bad head, but for less money you can get the 58cc Trick Flow Twisted Wedge head, which is a way better head than the GT40x. But unless you've already got headers & aftermarket exhaust, and are willing to do a intake at the same time, it's kind of a waist of gaskets & time to put the stock stuff back on. No sense increasing the breathing of an engine, then choke it with stock intake & exhaust. IMO!

those tf heads, will they just bolt on? I read the notes for them on summit, and it says that you need twisted wedge pistons for piston to valve clearance. is so, how much extra money/time will I be spending?

and would those heads be okay with this intake for now? would it be worth it?

yes the TFS heads will have no problem fitting with the stock pistons. You can run a pretty decent cam with them also and still have plenty of room. I now have 61cc heads with a tfs1 cam with 1.72 rockers and have plenty of room with stock style pistons. honestly I thought my car was way more fun to drive when I had the HO cam with 1.7's though. but half of that is prolly having a smaller converter......

Yes that inake will work way better than your stock one. Just remember you will need a mass air meter calibrated for those 24 lbs injectors. Might as well spring for a 70mm throttle body & spacer while your at it.

The combustion chamber on a stock cylinder head is 61 cc

My point is, youll drop in compression with the gt40x heads with the 64cc chambers.

so the tf twisted wedge head is looking like my best bet for the money. so that, plus a cobra intake, and 70mm tb and spacer. are my injectors going to be okay with this setup? is it worth upgrading those, or is that just a waste of my time and money?

19 lb injectors will support close to 300 hp at the flywheel.

You may or may not need 24 lb injectors. Id budget for them plus a 75-80 mm pro m maff and a 255 lph fuel pump.

The Explorer intake you posted for $150 had 24Lbs injectors with it. That's like buying the injectors & getting the intake for free!!
