Hood Pin Help.

Today I picked up some stainless hood pins from FRPP, and they didn't come with instructions. I googled all over, and found a few different methods for installing them, but none of them seemed exactly right, and besides I couldn't find an example for the 05+ Stangs.
If anyone here has these & knows how to install them, I would appreciate the information. Thanks.

Not to fear good buddy! I just installed those same FRPP hood pins on my stang this weekend so I've got plenty of insight on helping you out. Do you need a good set of instructions to get started with? or do you just need some pointers?

Not sure if this will show up right but these are the instructions that I used to install mine but I've got ALOT of tips and pointers to hand out if you're interested such as drill bit sizes and stuff that isn't explained as thoroughly as a mustang owner that is about to drill into his hood would like....

Lets see some pics of those Nameless
Well since I knew everyone would want to see some pics, I made sure I took ALOT while installing. Didn't take pics of me drilling cause I needed to focus....but here's a couple of pics...

Notice how I threaded some cord through the hole and loosened the radiator bracket to help get it to the end. I tied off one nut and pulled it through, lined it up just right and threaded the post into it without having to cut away...

I just now got a chance to check this, as I am on the road. Thanks so much for this, nameless, I really appreciate it, and your ride looks sick too. :) Thanks again. I'll be installing them on Monday when i get home, and I will be using your information. :D
Bye bye hood flap! lol

A couple of q's.
1. I see how you were able to pull the nut through with the string. How were you able to hold the nut once you got it under the hole? Was it difficult to adjust the pin for depth due to not being able to easily get at that nut?

2. Did you measure the pin placement at all, or did you just place one pin, and then make sure the other pin was the same distance from say the fender or another point, as the first pin?

3. And finally how tight did you make the pins so that the pins don't rattle around and it actually puts a little pressure on the hood?

Thanks. :)

I took the picture of me threading it through the actual hole, but it worked ALOT better to unbolt the radiator bracket and thread through there. When I pulled it through I used a drill bit to position it right underneath the hole. (nail, stick, pencil would work as well...) Be warned that there is a little hump on the inside just like on the top and it may take a little maneuvering. Just as the instructions from that website said to use a 3/8's bit but you'll have to shave the edges just a bit so that the pin itself will thread into this hole and ALSO thread into the bolt on the bottom. Extra support ya know!

2. Did you measure the pin placement at all, or did you just place one pin, and then make sure the other pin was the same distance from say the fender or another point, as the first pin?
Before I removed the plastic radiator cover I measured about an inch from it and made a small mark. I checked to make sure both sides were about the same. Judge the location from that small raised hump on the top. You can see the pics of my holes...not the dirty ones! :D

3. And finally how tight did you make the pins so that the pins don't rattle around and it actually puts a little pressure on the hood?
Actually I did just a bit of adjusting on them today. Once you get them so that they are pretty close you can raised the rubber stoppers underneath to add just a bit of tension. You won't want ALOT because those cheap ass plates are freaking plastic and will scratch easy. (sorry those things just kinda pissed me off)

Alright I know that's alot of reading but for a guy about to drill into his hood you'll WANT that peace of mind. I just kinda cowboyed it with just the instructions off that website. I've got more info if you're interested (gasket, helpful tools, etc.) and more than willing to share but only if you want/need it. Not sure of your mechanical ability and don't want to over saturate you if you already have a plan....anyways I'll be back on tonight.

Just got in off the road, and read this. I'll be heading down to my buddy's shop today to use his tools (+he has a big garage, & I don't lol). That pretty much covers it, I just wanted to be sure about the placement. The inch from the plastic cover was what I was looking for. I used to be a mechanic, so the actual putting them in is no biggie, I just wanted to be sure about where they went on the rad support. Thanks so much for your help, nameless. :)

^^ No!! My local Ford Dealer has the cheapest prices on everything I have priced out. They are #1 Ford Racing Dealer in the U.S. Gene Evans Ford M-16700-A HOOD PINS

Hood pins are $25 from them!!!

I'm going to have to agree here. Since well...I obviously HAVE the FRPP pins, I can tell you that they are not very good. I mean, in one sense they are good because they get the job done, but they are cheaply made and just do not have that "show quality" that we all demand. I really like those Scott Drakes, and Shelby also makes a nice looking kit.

Thank you to whoever dug up this old thread. I've had alot of zombie threads show up around here lately. Just reminds me of back when I had enough money and plenty of free time :( Law School has changed that....but I hope to have some grease under my fingernails over the xmas break...

DiMora, do you happen to have any specs on these Pins? (distance between holes, size of holes, size of plate, etc.) I'd like to replace my FRPP pins, but need to know if the holes I have drilled now would line up.

Anyone else have any input on this?
