I am looking at upgrading to an 03 Cobra from my 96 GT. Is there anything special to check out on this year that they had problems with? Don't want to buy a lemon when it's something I should of looked at. Thanks.

Dont buy one that is owned by a young kid! I know a person that was or is still selling his 03, and it was sick! It was kicked out of Bandimere for running to quick without saftey equipment! O man it was intense, but he ran the hell out of it!

why don't you just upgrade your '96? it's paid off i'm assuming?

whats a 03-04 cobras in decent shape goin' for nowadays? 25-30? anyway take what you would spend on that cobra and throw off in that 96 and you would have one badass street stang that would smoke just about anything.

thats just what i would do if i had a paid off mustang and in the budget for a cobra.

+1 I was thinking about doing that two but ive only got a lil to pay on this and the money im putting in the car payment is going toward a 5.0 stroker for it. so that's my .02

You can do that with a stock cobra :D

yea i would say buy a 99-04 bodied car and upgrade it, i just dont think they are that great for the money, but if you can get into one with under 40k miles for under 20k then go for it, other than that.... its not worth it imo

Buy the Cobra, man. If you have the funds DO IT! You deserve an upgrade. Yes, you can rebuild a GT to be as fast as you want :blah but it will never be the same as owning a Cobra. You can make a used Civic run with a vette with enough money, but I don't see everybody running out to buy one of them to save money.

Ask for previous owner information. If they say they don't have any check the glove box. The previous owner of my car left all kinds of oil change slips and what not in the glove box. I called him and he told me all kinds of stories about the car. Pay attetion to ebay and autotrader.com. There are always sob stories in thier about guys that have to, "get rid of thier toys," because they are having a baby or they are in debt. You can get a really good deal that way. Try to get one that came from the south; less rust issues.

A 03-04 Cobra for under $20,000? :lmao
Not without a salvage title.

if you pay over 20k for a coupe.. i pity you.

and no more than 23k for a vert, the cars are 3 and 4 years old, and year model is changing again and they are an older body style, they are not worth the money, the value on them has been articifically inflated.

My neighbor sold his modded '03 for $19k. They had an oil diagnosis done at 56000 miles that showed his 7000 mile-old oil was in better shape than most oil at 2400 miles. Car was BABIED.

If I could of sold my car I would of bought it quick!

I've thought a lot about upgrading mine to run with the Cobras. I've installed a P1SC w/3 core, I have a Ford Racing intake to install, a TKO 500 to install, Baer 13" to install, etc. etc., but when I'm all done it still wont run down a modded Cobra. Then I thought why not buy a Cobra and upgrade it? I can sell all of my parts and the car and have a decent down payment. I personally like the body style better on the 99 ups anyway. This link pretty much sold me on wanting a Cobra. Sure you've all seen it.

thats just because your in an auto, from a dig you should take even a pullied cobra from a dig, get some more suspension mods. There is BIG misconception about the pullied and ported eaton cobras. Now once they switch blowers - then yea they are smokeing.. but they you just but that factory s/c for no reason, its cheaper to mod the GT - and youll get as much or more out of it, for less money

why wouldn't it? just so you can say i've got a cobra? rofl :lmao

dude i've got about $11k in my car right now as it sits and it ran 11.70 @ 116. thats about a second faster than a stock cobra for the same price. whats a stock cobra run? 12.7x's? plus a cobra to run 11.70's would need quite a few mods to take a whole second off. I ran a dude who just bought a cobra when i got the blower put on my car and beat him by about 3-4 car lengths and he was highly pissed so he took it back and got a GT. lol

26,000+11,000 = 37,000 (thats brand new against brand new)

now with all the stuff i've done to it lately i'm gonna have about $60k in it total (including the price of the car) with about 850rwhp.

but if you want to waste your money just so you can say you have a cobra go right ahead.

Umm cobras hold their value alot better then GTs which sky rocket downwards till they reach about half of their value and then steadily fall downward .. 03-04 cobras are still a very hot comodity especially with the retardedly high dealer over charges on the newer styled cobras
60k+ for a new one 23+ for a coupe with low miles ...hmmm thats a toughie 2.6l kennebell anyone??

I guess I just have valve envy. Even if I installed a DOHC in my 96, it's still just an old GT with a nice engine. After the cost of a new engine, supercharger, tranny, etc. I'm most of the way to a Cobra.

+1. get the cobra if that's what you really want. i would trade in my 02 gt in a second for an 03-04 cobra if i could. do what YOU want.

actually modded cobras hold value like wet toilet paper

Personally I would much rather have a 2V that can run 11s than a 4V that can run 11s! It will cost the same or less to get your car to run with modded cobras! And I dont think that it matters what will hold valve more when you have a moddified car, because you will never get any where near what you paid for everything! Again it is what you want, but remember braging rights when at the track when you have a 2V that can run quicker than modified cobras! I am not talking about a cobra with all new heads and stroker and the whole 9 yards, but one with a different s/c souldnt be much of a problem! Also to consider is suspension! They may have more HP but if they cant hook and you do you will be much better off!

Speaking of wet toilet paper...you are talking out your ass. barrett jackson just sold a 3 year old slightly moded 2004 Cobra for 33,000. As for finding a good used Cobra-Check car max if you want to see what an unabused cobra goes for. as you will see it is the miles on the car that effect the value the most-not the years gone by. and I didnt buy my 03 Cobra so that I could say look I have a cobra...i bought it because I liked the car and its obvious cosmetic different features. I guess an eaton stock SC sucks but I bet it is better than having no SC. LOL!! I can talk- I had one in my car. In closing it is a great car even though i still felt i had to mod mine.

Well give me crap if you want, but I bought it. Too good of a deal to pass up with all of the mods it already had. I'll post picks as soon as I get the car. Thanks for all of the help.

P.S. Anyone want to by a 96 GT? Going to post it on Ebay this weekend.
