Looking into getting a 03/04 cobra

I got some questions to ask.

1. Is there any difference between the 03 to 04 cobra?

2. When going to look at one anything I should look for?(ex: engine, under the car interior, how it runs idle(rpms), how it drives)

3. Would you recommend looking for one thats stock or modded?
Reason I ask is I dont know if some mods will be bad or good.

4. Paint wise how well does the paint hold up? I know on my 2000 gt it loooks good but you can see the areas of wear and tear. Car is black.

The place Ill most likely be going to purchase one is called Hi-End Auto they specialize in Cobras etc.

Hi-End Auto - Hi-End Auto

The prices they have seem pretty reasonable I think but maybe I could bump them down a little on prices.
Im looking for either grey, sonic blue basically.

I'd get one that is as lightly modded as possible. That gives you a clean slate to do with it what you want and reduces the change things have been poorly done.

I'm pretty sure the paint on those cars will hold up as well as any other new edge mustang's paint.

If I recall, there's been some discussions on here as to the quality of products from Hi-end Auto. But in the end i think it was decided that someone just got one bad car and raised hell about it.

ah I see so Hi end auto is known on here.

Yeah I figured id try to get one thats not heavily modded.

In reality only thing I want to do is to lower it or give it a nice clean stance. Exhaust, intake, tune, and minor upgrades in the cooling department.

And or if I do get one thats kinda heavily modded its most likely it has everything I want in a cobra. Nice thing theres a couple of performance shops I can take it to and have them do a run through and have it dyno'd to make sure everything is running the way its suppose to and or nothing is going bad as well.

theres a place in virginia beach called imports of tidewater. the name is funny because all they do is lifted diesels and performance cars. they have a terminator cobra for 23k, but its putting 580hp to the wheels and they have the dyno sheet. they also said they go through cobras alot. i got my 04 gt from them.

get as slightly modded as possible. i bought my cobra from Hi end and was very satisfied. as you can see from there site they specialize in them.

As for questions:
1. Is there any difference between the 03 to 04 cobra?
Changes were mainly limited to color and trim. New exterior paint offerings for 2004 were Torch Red (re-introduced after being discontinued mid-year on the 2003), Screaming Yellow and Competition Orange. An optional Mystichrome package with an exterior paint treatment that changes color when viewed from different angles was offered for 2004. Inside the Mystichrome Cobra, the leather seat inserts and the steering wheel cover also shift colors. Interior wise, the 2004 Charcoal Gray seating added dark gray inserts. 2003's were lighter gray. Other differences:
* The 2003 radio decks came with an AUX 20 pin port in the back and the '04 had the SAT button.
* The door lock on the drivers side on '03 Cobras were black, 04 Cobras were chrome
* The 2004 the cats were bigger
* The 2003 had a small interior headliner cargo net. It was deleted for 2004.
* The computer codes were different between the model years

2. When going to look at one anything I should look for?(ex: engine, under the car interior, how it runs idle(rpms), how it drives)
Listen to the idle, take it around and see if you here the infamous head tick. also anything out of the norm
3. Would you recommend looking for one thats stock or modded?
Reason I ask is I dont know if some mods will be bad or good.
go as stock as possible. that way u can build the way you want, not the way someone else wanted.
4. Paint wise how well does the paint hold up? I know on my 2000 gt it loooks good but you can see the areas of wear and tear. Car is black.
hold up just like any other new edge

also look at the link posted after the quote. a lot of good info

^ Thanks for the info.
Reps to everyone for the info. It helped me out alot now.

Now about that tick is that something if I where to lift the hood and listen to the motor ill hear it or do I need to really pay attention.
Cause I know in my mustang gt you can hear the injectors but there a slight slight click than a tick noise.

Other than that yeah ill end up looking for a non modded.

yeah, Ive been more picky now. Since Ive been looking around.

The color I want is that dark gray not the light gray but the dark gray.

If not I will look at getting the Torch Red or Sonic Blue as a fall back.

Only thing that Im looking for is if it has the KB on it already.
Not sure if getting one with a KB be a good thing but thats one thing I want is to have a KB on the cobra already. But problem with that is there all heavily modded if it has a KB on it.

But honestly only thing I would do if I did get a cobra thats stock. Id lower it with H&R race springs upgrade shocks and struts, LT headers xpipe borla exhaust and wide deep dish rear tires.

Idk if theres any cooling mods for the stock blower which is why I want the KB instead cause it stays cooler right?

if i was lookin at one with a KB on it, i would be all over finding out about the tune and what not. normally a KB or whipple means is lived a little harder life than an eaton car. there is a head difference from 03 to 04, as most the later production 04's have the better cooling passages and 8 thread spark plug holes. otherwise, the rest hasd been covered.

good point about the kb^

Ill look for a more stock one now lol. never thought of that reps.

Was wondering how good is the eaton? I know on the other forums they kinda bash about people swapping the eaton s/c to a gt.

All I want to see is maybe 375-400rwhp around that. Other than that I just want it to handle like a dream on the twisties.
