Hey guys im ganna have some questions as i go and rather make a bunch of threads im just going to make one continous thread to post how things are going and and questions i may have.
First things first, my build
336ci stock block. Scat steel crank, Scat Forged I-beam rods and Probe pistons-flat top
melling high volumn oil pump
main cap support and windage tray
TFTW heads 205cc intake fully CNC'd
TF R series intake for 75mm TB
70mm TB and spacer
30# injectors with maf
t-5 swap, gettin rid of the ol' AOD
hopefuly 10:1 compression

Parts im still researching and saving for and what not.
Cam- have no idea what to get yet, most likely getting custom grind
suspension components - i have lakewood 70:30s up front and 50/50s out back. getting adj. upper and lower control arms in the rear and ford racing drag springs.
fuel pump - most likely be walbro 225
vavle train - have no idea what to do here. the heads came with the double valve spring springs that hold up to .600 lift. so i think im good for springs. i dont plan on running more than that lift. as for lifters, pushrods and rockers. still looking and researching.

the chassis im getting the torque box reinforcments, 8pt cage, and connectors.

my questions as of right now..
Im most likely getting 1.7 rockers, what do you guys think of that?
I have no idea what to get for pushrods... will stockers work, if not what size do i need? or should i just have the machine shop measure for length of pushrod i need?
Lifters i dont know about either. I have the ones that came out of the motor which are roller hydrolic. but i see they are not that expensive anyway.. should i just replace them? and which ones you guys have good luck with?

Power/ET goals - im hopin to build somewhere around 500hp at the flywheel. maybe run in the 11's on a radial. what to you guys think?

Thanks for all the help please be paitent with me. First motor i have built.

If you are having a shop do the motor they will figure the push rod length and after the cam is ground you should have a recomended valve spring. You can go 1.7 RR as long as you have the ptvc (piston to valve clearance) needed.
As far as the lifters it depends on how many miles are on them, I have reused roller lifters many times and had no trouble.

well the 1.7 rocker ratio will be takin into consideration when building the cam i think, therefore i can figure ptvc at the same time. idk exactly how many miles are on the lifters def 30-40k.

Since you are going to get a custom cam why don't you get 1.6 rockers ? The only reason to go with 1.7s is if you want a little more lift and don't want to dig into your motor or you are running speed density .

#5 ·
yeah thats what i was thinkin, thats why i asked the question to see what you guys thought. but yeah i know what you mean and i can get 1.6 not a big deal. and im running MAF so no complications there

so mustank. whats the differences? any advantages?

i dont think hes saying i can or cant, hes just stating what you said was false.. why is what i would like to know. what is your opinion mustank. altho what M L said isnt realy false... dont understand mustank.. or are you just having a bad day? im not looking for a bunch of arguing so really if you dont have any advice... just dont post please. stating why those statments are false might be advice. but just stating that its false with no reason is a waste of my time.

#13 ·
what do you want a pic of. my parts.. lol:eek:

#15 ·
what about my power/ET estimate. you think im close?

#18 ·
i think mustank is getting way to far ahead. im getting a cam. as for the specs i have no idea yet because im not ready to buy one yet. im just wondering what the benefit between the both would be? obviously i need to figure out which RR im going to run before i go lookin at cams...

[QUOTE If run run a cam with 1.6's and it clears and switch to 1.7's it will clear. Duration is not changed. What does lsa have to do with anything...... Its cam events that are important.....

This is false

the 1.7 rockers will give you a little more lift, and its a cheap mod to add a little more power. ptv clearance shouldnt be much of a problem, even with a fairly radical cam. 1.7 rockers are a common mod on the Tempo 2.3 engine, and there are guys running race cams, with 1.7 rockers and headls milled .090" without any ptv clearance issues. common gain with the 1.7 rockers on a stock Ford Tempo 2.3 is about 7-15hp.

Nice ride!

Stock pushrods won't work with Twisted Wedges, and the springs for .600 doesn't mean that they are good for all cams under that. If you'll get a custom cam you'll also get the correct spring info. Talk to the cam grinder about rockers. 205 CNC heads have 65cc chamber, i'd also have them milled to get more compression.

#27 ·
yes but then im dealing with PTVC. how did you post the pics. lol

#29 ·
just a clone. and it wont be like that any longer. painting it white again, but no saleen stuff is going back on it. doing white with a sunset perl, aughta look sharp when im done. what do you guys think im ganna be looking at power wise?

been working on the body past week. pretty torn apart but cant wait to get her painted and back together!!

#37 ·

ok i will ask my cam grinder. now as for custom cam grinders. who should i go with?
