i recently just bought my first mustang which is a 01 v6 (3.8L) im looking to doing mods. i thought about doing the 4.3L stroker motor from supersixmotorsports or doing a 4.6l or 5.0l engine swap and upgrading them. im just not sure which one i should do? i know they require a lot of time and money but this is a project and just would like to know what the best decision would b.

thanks in advance to everyone

Help me help you

First and foremost: Welcome to ModdedMustangs forum!
I know that an engine swap can be time consuming and expensive but it's much easier going from a 6 to a 6. Most (sane mechanics) will tell you "making an auto into a stick is a waste and so is making a 6 into an 8" I think it depends entirely on what you want to tackle for a project. SuperSixMotorsports would be an awesome route to go if you've got some money to put down. seems like they do a god job assembling complete kits to make things a bit easier. (although I have not dealt with them personally) What do you ultimately want from this car? do you have other means of getting around during the project? What's your working budget? What trans do you have in it now and is it what you want? should you also be looking for a donor car? I might be able to help you brainstorm with some more info on the vehicle's current state and also more details on what you are comfortable with taking apart/what kind of tools/resources you have access to.
Good luck,
-Nathan

i bought this car as a project car. i bought a v6 bc i wanted to make a sleeper noone would expect. honestly i wanted to make a sleeper/drag car that could run close to 10's in a quarter and i know supersixmotorsports has built one before and i have personally met someone who has tuned a 3.8 stroked to a 4.3 with blower on it that runs 10's and can be driven daily. i really just wanted to see what everyone on here would think was the best thing for me but honestly im considering keeping the v6 and getting in touch with supersixmotorsports since there is so much **** to do to get a v8. i have a 5 spd in it which i love and yes i have a daily driver vehicle to get around in during this project. As far as tearing the car down and tools i have that covered since i am a dodge technician at a dealership with access to almost every tool possible along with having friends that work at ford dealerships close by.

Wow, awesome- This project has tremendous potential!
I think the V6 in that car could be a fine starting point for you. Look into what goes into installing the windstar ram air kit. Also look around at pros vs. cons of centrifugal/twin screw superchargers, vs. twin/single turbo and/or nitrous kits. And you are also going to need an ecu tuning computer, probably an xcal3 with a laptop or something similar to monitor the system for when it's all together and ready to run. I think project has tremendous potential and would love to see another beast V6 confuse the hell out of some hot shot punk in dads cobra lol!
Take your time do the research, and with the right amount of hard work your V6 will scream! And please keep us updated along the way. And find out whee you can have your block machined while you strip it down. Maybe look at pistons, cam, and other valvetrain parts/setups
If I could have my way (unlimited budget with my 97) I would bore/stroke to 4.2, get a nice set of split port heads from super six and a windstar kit add a single turbo and some long tube headers with a modest shot of nO2. nothing too psychotic though because I would just rather drive it longer before having a problem that would require a rebuild...nitrous can be risky all I'm sayin.
But this is all just my own opinion, anyway.

I just bout a 2000 v6 (3.8) mustang. I've got about a grand in the bank that I'm looking to putting in mods. Just seeing what everyone thinks I should do. I know I need a cai and probably a better exhaust but I'm looking at bigger changes like cams or bore the engine. Let me know which way to go
