yea i was messing with everything last night trying to shot in a dorm room and i set my iso really high and forgot to change it back... and also the can and the cake are taken with a really old lens that is preped deferent so and im not used to shooting with it... im trying to figure it out more... but that takes time... i've only had the camera a few days... but if you want close ups give me a second

and as for the motion blur i don't think you get how bad this dorm room was... take on 60 watt bulb and put it in a 12*10 room and try to light it all ... and then take a picture thats how bad it as

Yeah it takes a while to learn a new camera, especially a more serious unit. :)

If it's that dark, try putting the iso on auto, set the camera to shutter speed priority (on my Canons it's Tv on the mode dial), slow the shutter speed down, and put it on a tripod or set the camera down on something, and use the timer to take the shot. :)

The shot of that Red Bull can was taken in the same lighting conditions you speak of, using macro mode and the flash.

Thank you, I have just had a lucky week I guess, purchased the camera on... uh monday... went to work with it that night... hung out with friends on tuesday... birthday party on wednesday... if i can figure out a way to keep my camera warm i will take it down town tomorrow... but the batteries might freeze... then i won't have anything to shoot friday :(

again thanks on the quality im surprised at how well it takes and am glad that i didn't get a point and shoot... i like the different options when it comes to lenses

well there is the problem...

1. I didn't have a tripod or anything that worked well for me
2. I don't have a macro lens
3. The flash on my camera is really over bearing and I don't like it...
4. The Shutter priority mode on my camera doesn't appear to be working correctly and im just fine with my three button set up

i have it set up in such a manner the i push the AF button to focus (if manual, aid in focusing), then i push the green button to expose then i push the take picture button... its really nice that way if you move a little or something changes you can keep your parameters or totally scrap them and redo something at the touch of a button with out affecting the other two ... and it also leads to faster picture taking...

and currently my camera wants to shoot at .3 seconds to 6 tenths... the lowest i can go with the IS is 8 tenths and get okay quality

Hum. You mean on the new camera shutter priority is not working, or you haven't sorted out how to use it yet?

As for no tripod, put the camera on a desk, a shelf, anything you can and use the timer.

As for the flash, on my camera when I'm in the manual modes the flash level is adjustable. I would imagine that Pentax has something similar, as that's not a mickey mouse camera.

Another good mode on my camera, is the P on the mode dial, which stands for Program mode. It's kind of a semi-auto feature, in that it sets the F stop & shutter speed automatically, but I can still control exposure level and the flash implicitly. Again, I would imagine the Pentax has the same thing or something similar.
