Hi all....i'm a big ford fan and this is my first post on this forum. I have a heavily modded '04 6L powerstroke and i'm on alot of the diesel forums. But a buddy of mine just purchased a black w/silver stripe 2007 roush 427R with 2K miles and wants to mod it. I have an SCT with custom tunes for my diesel and i told him that the SCT is hands down the best of the best for custom tuning. My thoughts are getting the SCT with custom tunes, a steeda cold air intake and a 2.57 pulley for the supercharger. I have Innovative Diesel tune my truck and was gonna look into him tuning this car. Does anyone recommend any other place for getting custom tunes for this car. Also, is the steeda intake and supercharger pulley good things to do? Where would be a good place to get them? Thanks

This is the way to go.

If he wants mail tunes, then yes Justin from VMP has one of the best reputations.

Or see if you guys can find a local tuner that's legit (I wouldn't trust just anyone though) Where are you located?

I'm from NY. I already am experienced with SCT and getting tunes from email and downloading them onto the SCT with the liveload software. However, i'm just gonna use my X2 to pull his computer strategy and give the info to Justin so that we don't hafta deal with sending the tunes through email and downloading them to the device. This way Justin can just put them on the SCT and send it out already with the tunes loaded on it.

I'd hold onto his own SCT SF3 and have Justin send mails. Because, you have to datalog and send him back the info so he can fine tune it. Honestly, just do it through email.

does it really matter whether its a X3 or SF3...cause i see VMP sells the X3? What kind of tunes are everyone running on their cars? Would you recommend running the highest octane fuel at the pumps?

Roush Black Jack Here

I have an 09 Roush Black Jack which is pretty much the same as the 427R as far as performance out of the box. I do road track so for now I am keeping the stock Pulley and Baby Boost that cames from Roush. I hear guys are picking up an EZ 100HP at the Wheels with the right CAI, Pulley and tune set up. Keep the updates coming!

anyone know what gears come with the 427R...are all the 427R's the same? The tires are Cooper 275/40zr18's. I tried to read the strategy with my X-cal2 for my truck but it said that it wasn't able to read the strategy. I wonder if my SCT is too old to read it and wonder if i'm gonna need an X3 to do so. I would just really like to send Justin the strategy and all the info when i order everything. Sent him an email yesterday about the 500hp package, but haven't heard back yet.

When I first got my car tuned all I had to do was take the code off the computer and send in all my specs. Its a little tag on the PCM with a 4 digit code of letters and numbers. For example, my code is PSP1.

Found this picture online:

Its the little tag on the silver box next to the fuse box.

As far as hearing back from Justin... Hes a great tuner and I am 100% satisfied with his tunes. His customer service is a little lacking, but you can't blame him. He's a one man show and he is always very, very busy. I've found its best to just call him if you don't get a response in a few days. Don't be discouraged by his response time to email. Waiting for a tune from Justin is definitely worth.

For the gears, it should say on the diff. You can also look on the door tag. CD is a 3.55 CG is a 3.31. I believe in 2007 they started putting 3.55s standard in all manual vehicles, so if his car is a manual, it should be a 3.55.

Just checked my email again and received a response from justin. The car is a manual and he door code said CD...so looks like it has 3:55's then. Yeah i saw where the PCM is located...i'll hafta get that code also i guess when i send Justin all the info.

Yea. The ECU code and the Strategy code are two different things. You'll need to pull the Strategy code. I couldn't do it, simply because I couldn't find it... My tuner however found it. Apparently I was looking right at it, and he just knew what to look for. So, I can't help you there man.

Justin got back to me and said he really only needs the year of the car and what trans and he can go from there. Said didn't need strategy. However i did get the PCM code which is CUY2 and was posted right next to a Roush warning sticker on the PCM stating not to reflash the PCM haha. So i gotta get this info sent to Justin. I'm pretty sure the pulley on it is a keyed pulley...which justin said is easy to change and doesn't require a removal tool. Justin said they changed the pulley in '08

Yeah, you have to hold your mouth right when looking for that sticker on the computer in the engine bay...a LOT of stuff blocking view of it; may even have to angle your head just right accompanied by a bright flashlight. Sticker on mine was white with the aforementioned 4-digit alphanumeric code.

Ok...i got all the info i need to place an order with Justin. Got only two questions left tho. When running a smaller supercharger pulley has anyone had problems with over spinning the charger and breaking it? Also, is there really only one tune for these cars? I know premium high octane fuel is required, but just wondering what kind of tunes does Justin have? Is there like a 91octane tune, 93octane tune and like a 93+ octane tune? Wasn't sure cause i can have tones of different tunes for my SCT with my powerstroke.

#24 ·
You can have Justin write different tunes, but it will cost a little more. His tunes are awesome all around though and I couldn't see myself buying another tune unless it was a specific track tune. If you wanted different octane versions of the same tune, you would just be wasting money.

I've never heard of someone over spinning a supercharger and breaking it on these either. I highly doubt that Justin would be selling something that did that lol.

alright guys...i got the 500hp package coming for my buddies 427R...it'll be here on tuesday the 24th. One other question i got is...what kind of gauges are you guys with roush supercharged cars installing? My buddy got the boost gauge kit that installs in the air vent, but wanted to know what kind of other gauges would be good to have and what kind of pods are out there. I know there are pillar pods and a dash pod, but is there like a console pod or something? I thought he mentioned something like that. If anyone has pics of there gauge setups, lets see them. Thanks guys.

As far as pods go, SOS in mine and lots of other member's opinion is the best quality.

And gauges, I run Autometer Nexus. They are pricey, so be warned... but VERY accurate, and quality is second to none. Customer service, warranty, ease of installation is ridiculous. If I had a Roush, I'd get the Roush vent pod, and a SOS dual pod. Now I have the SOS triple pod with Autometer Nexus Wideband A/F, Fuel Pressure, and Boost gauges.
