Is there any way to shield heat from the headers from frying your starter? The passenger side mac LT come crazy close to it. Is this a legitimate concern or am I being paranoid. Is there some kind of heat shield or perhaps wrapping the headers just in that area that can prevent me from getting stranded one day eventually?

do you think you could use something like dynomat or a heat wrap that you could stick straight to the starter??

Yeah maybe I can heat wrap the starter instead. Before I do anything though I'm interested in hearing whether anyone else thinks this is a legitimate concern.

Have you done a search for "header wrap", "starter wrap", or anything similar on the Summit or Jeg's website???
Nope I was watching football lol... but after seeing your post I searched Jegs and found two products which look like they would work perfectly.

Thermo Tec 14150 Thermo-Tec Aluminized Starter Heat Shield

JEGS Performance Products 32000 JEGS Universal Starter Heat Insulator

Thanks boogie, I don't know why I didn't think of going to Jegs sooner. I'm going to order the one in the first link now.

what is your concern? i have mac longtubes and no problems with starter?

save $25 and wrap it in aluminum foil if your concerned
After installing MAC LT's the passenger side header pracitically blankets your starter. It won't happen right away, but prolonged exposure to that much heat over time will eventually fry your starter. I'd rather spend $25 at jegs than have my car go "click click click" and not start on a hot summer day and have to spend far more than $25 on a new starter. And aluminum foil may look like heat shield material but it isn't.

Yeah, heat kill starter, BAAAAAAD. Had it happen after an overheat issue I ran into with a tune being WAY too lean. Wrap it up! ☺
