89 gt. how do you delete smog pump with vortech charger? the alternator gets relocated and attached to smog pump. i want to delete the pump all together and use a shorter belt, what do i do with the alternator? is this possible? im in the middle of it now and info is appreciated.

well to delete the smog pump, just take it out. you just need to buy a shorter belt to fit. the alternator stays if your just takeing the smog pump off. but if you have the vortech im sure they send bracketry for mounting???

thanks for the info, i did not know you had to buy the delete pully. now is there a spacer you could possibly make to go in place of where the smog pump or delete pully would go?

right, and idk cause i dont have my car to go look at right now, but i assume the lower bolt on the alternator is the same for the smog pump which where the bolt goes through is like 3" long before the bolt goes into the block. well what im saying is if someoen doesnt want the pully, just wants to delete it completly, could you take a piece of tubeing and cut it to the same length as the smog pump delete pully?

Digging up one from the past but I have a question... my car has smog delete pulley and the way the swing arm bracket that mounts the alt to the smog pulley wont work with the delete... do you have to make your own bracket or what?

look at my build thread on the last few pages. link is in my sig. im working on a solution to all of this. i will be installing my alternator on the drivers side. you shouldnt have to run the belt around any extra pulley that is not driving anything. that is just dumb.

Looks like a nice build thread you got there!! Definitely lmk when you get a bracket figured out for now I had to go ahead and mount the smog pump on to get everything mocked up but I don't car for that... I need to figure something else out better for my discharge tube too... the way the typhoon intake with pro products egr spacer and TB it doesn't line up well with the blower...

Plus a Guy sold me a big 3 core Rad w dual e fans but it's not made for a Stang... the bungalow are backwards... any way a shop can plug ones there and out new ones where they should go? Also never even notices this Rad doesn't have a cap...?!?

No cap on the radiator i believe means youll have to fill the radiator through the over flow box. But i dont think you can use the stock over flow for that radiator. The newer style over flows are pressurized where ours are not pressurized

well i actually just filled it through one of the radiator hoses so i got fluid in it but didnt know if it was an issues not having a cap on it in general....

#16 ·
How are you ever going to check the fluid ?

not sure thats why i was asking!! lol is there a way to get a bung welded on it and put a cap on or should i try to move this thing off to somebody else to mess with and get one from american muscle or lmr or something?! i got a good deal on this one pretty well brand new with the dual fans, etc so i was hoping to be able use it but might put the stock one back on for now and try sell this one, save up and get a new one idk..

anyways, about the smog pump pulley thing,.... i thought about heating up the swing arm bracket thing and straightening it out to see if it would hit the delete pulley hole...?!?

I think you either need the matching over flow bottle that was ment for that radiator.... or get rid of it and get a radiator that was ment to be used with our car.

yup i was just told a local company builds radiators fairly cheap so im gonna look into that and keep the fans, try to sell the radiator i got...

any input on that bracket though?

when i get my misc. pieces and parts from corey im going to do a little grinding and cutting and mach'ing up and then a sand blast and powder coat. there will be tons of pics in my build thread of it. and i will let you make one just like mine. lol. that is my only input. its going to be fairly simple and hopefully i will have all the kinks worked out already if you want to try it. all it will take is a new belt, factory a/c bracket, and an adjustable rod. and a bit of time.

Sounds great man! I guess in the meantime ill just run the "factory setup" with smog pump still in tact until you get it figured out cause I have to hurry up and get all my parts installed before next Friday ill be hitting the rollers and getting Dyno tuned

I was just looking over the way the pulleys ride... and im not sure how the water pump would be routed the way you are talking about doing it...? seems like the better option would be to eliminate the smog pump and locate the alternator where the smog pump is supposed to mount...?
