doing shocks and springs on my mustang today and the coil springs are stuck in the a arm. didnt have time to play with it too much tonight and i have to do a fuel pump on a jetta tomorrow so i'll have to see when i have time to get it off but has anybody ever seen that before?

just seems to me like with the rubber bushing it shouldnt get stuck like that. i mean this thing is stuck, ive been using a bfh and it still isnt coming loose.

You try banging on the control arm not the spring?

Just a bit. I only had two hours to work on the car today and I have to also finish torquing everything in the rear. I was just curious if anyone had seen this before

I did borrow a spring compressor which helped me get the spring out of the top seat but the bottom is a no go. Luckily for me my friend just put a tubular k in his car so I'm just going to steal one of his a arms

You need an OTC 7045B spring compressor. It uses plates between the coils and a swivel at one end, slides thru the bottom of the control arm. Its what the dealers used. The internal compressor with hooks dont work, atleast for me. Ive tried them at the yards and the hole in the control arms were always too small. The extrnal compressors with hooks always seem to be too long as the threaded rods hit the control arm and the upper perch, so the springs cant be compressed enough. If youre working with factory springs (or any spring really), get the OTC compressor.

Whatever you do never stand in front of the spring during an install or removal, even with chains. And never pry on the spring if youre standing in front of it. Never.

Getting the spring "out" wasn't the issue I got it out of the too mount just fine and had it free and clear like I should have been able to just pick it up.

I wound up cutting it just to free up some room. I have a couple other cars I have to fix tonight but hopefully tomorrow ill be able to replace the a arm.
