i got a 99 cobra and when i turn the wheel left or right i get a disgusting squeaking sound. at first i was told it was my tire rods, so i went ahead and replaced the inner and outter tire rods....for a month or two had no noise then all of a sudden started again. i took it somewhere else the guy told me it was because i had PolyUrethane Bushings, i had to grease them up. i havent tried that yet. just wondering if anyone else has had this problem....any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

powersteering

interesting enough, Mine has nothing to do with powersteering. I shut the car off and turned the wheel back and forth and I still get a creaking sound...And it has nothing to do with the weather. Only thing I can say is, There's no noise at all when I start driving. It only squeaks after I've been driving for a few miles or minutes. It also sounds like it's coming from where ever the axle and shaft meet...not anywhere inside the column in the cab. It's annoying because my car is in flawless condition with 33k for miles so It eats me up.

i got the same problem im 2k GT.. i think its the steering wheel fluid, because my car kind of feels heavy compared to my 5.0.. let me know if you find out what the problem is, it would be helpful.

^ yeah everybody says something about how old the thread is...well they used the search button like they are supposed to, anways ive had the same problem in my mustang and its the ball joints, inside the joint its metal on metal and no grease fittings for factory ones, either spray wd40 to get rid of the noise or replace ball joints and put alittle grease on them and then use the grease fitting for the rest of the squeek noises that come about

the creaking noise comes from the steering rack moving side to side about an 1/8 of an inch. there is a TSB ford put out for it but you can fix it your self in about 20 min. pull the 2 bolts out holding the steering rack to the kmember. pop off the front bushing and pull the long tubes out. grind off about 1/8th of material from each one and reinstall them. tq to 52ft/lbs. here is a link with more detail and pictures
