The purpose of doing a stroker kit is to increase displacement and create a stoke bottom end. It depends what your goals are. If you want to make serious power then do the stroker kit that will support the horsepower you want. This summer I'm doing a stroker kit with a bottom end that will support 1100hp. The plan is to complete the stroker kit and break-in the motor. I want the motor to be ready before I add twin turbo system. The new SS Camaro I'm not worried about. The new Camaro Z28 with the LS7 I am. But that's another topic.

ive been told not to stroke the 4v motors, especiually not on a street car, I had a thread started about it a little bit back

I think it had to do with the cylinder walls getting to thing with a stroker and needing to be sleeved and all kind of jazz. plus you'll loose that high revving ability.

I thought about it as well but I heard about nazty performance, the guy has a 500+ HP n/a 4V.

 

The rule is not to go beyond 5.2L because of the heads not fitting right. Sean-Hyland did a great article on a 5.3L that had serious problems. A few other sites are doing stroker kits: MMR, Mad Dog, and American Muscle. MMR will do the machine work and the install for my car. Only deal with shops that have done stroker kits.

 

Big Bore > Stroker.

 

Why not both

 

I have 6k miles on my stroker and it does real well shifts the power curve down so you run bigger cams. It doesn't take away from my topend been 7k rpms. If you don't want to spend almost 2 grand on a new block designed for a big bore then it is way more likely to spit out a head gasket.

 

Do the stroker, then boost it. You will thank me later. A properly built engine will hold up just as good as a stock stroke engine. I have a 347 in my car and for the most part, it's just a myth about strokers not living long on the street. As far as it's manners will depend alot on the camshaft picked for the engine.
