i dont know alot about turbos but my buddy says that some of the exhaust gas is mixed with fresh air and then recirculated back into the intake as boost, i say he is wrong because i thought the only purpose of exhaust gas was to spin turbine on opposite side of the turbo where the intake outlet is.who is right

he is wrong. the simple way of explaining it is the exhaust causes the turbo to spool and the spinning of the turbo forces air thru the pipe to the intercooler (this is separate air from the exhaust) then to the intake. once enough air is going into the intake at a certain pressure the engine turns sucking air in to actually having air forced in (boost).
