Hi i always see people washing all there nice cars at the places where you put in some quaters andf u can choose soap or water or whatever just wondering if theres a reason is it the best wash or just cause its cheap??

Yes it's cheap but more importantly, hand washing gives you a better wash and is much safer on your paint as compared to machine washes. If you live in an apartment, usually you don't have access to a hose either, so if you want to handwash, the quarters/self serve is the only way to go.
