Tax time is is drawing near and i've been saving up money for awahile, its time for my stang to get some much needing lovin'. Little background info:
2000 Mustang GT all stock 97,XXX miles on the clock and its an auto :( It's also my daily driver so I'm not looking for 600RWHP maybe 400-500. What I would like to do is get a forged short block and go the supercharger route but besides the motor I want to know what else I should throw in there and what you think the labor on all of this might go for. I'm fairly confident in myself to be able to follow directions and install exhaust/minor boltons and suspension parts myself to save a little cash.

So far i'm looking at the MMR 600 block and pieceing together a Vortech or Procharger kit. I would like to convert to a 5/6spd aswell.

Let the brainstorm begin. :feedback

Build up the suspension, do your 5speed swap, then get build your engine and get it ready for a supercharger. Then next time you get money buy the supercharger.

i hate these threads. lol....

sensible thing to do is sell your **** and take that and the 10,000 and buy a cobra. And have a car that is worth what you got in it. You sink that money into that GT, you still got a GT and ull lose a chunk when you get ready to sell the car. At least the cobra is still a cobra and will hold its value since its not just another GT on the road!

Or put down on a 2011 GT. Basically 03/04 fast out of the box. Plus a much better interior. Unless you are happy with your gt like I am :)

But here is the theory I like to stick to:

1st make it stop.
2nd make it handle.
3rd make it Fassssssst!

#10 ·
im not impressed with the 2011 gt's for 30+ grand, it is a sharp looking car and it handles much better than ours but trade in for our car for a new one is going to be an extra 24k, if not more.

#12 ·
my actual vote goes to saving that ****! Period. Anyone that blows that on mods at one time needs their ass fisted with stal's hand! (stal doesnt care how messy. Hes got bad clothes on all the time). This is unless you are retarded rich.

STOP
This is all you need right here:

These are only 2011's and 03&04 Mustangs within 250 miles of you. You've also got a really sweet Screaming Yellow 2004 Saleen, a GORGEOUS silver '03 Cobra, a decent looking '04 Cobra vert, a black '04 Roush, and a really nice looking Azure Blue Mach 1.

If you've got ten grand to spend, you need to pair that with a trade in on your car and get yourself one of these cars I just found you. All of them are much more solid, and much better investments (however, don't ever look at a car as an investment...unless you sell cars like I do. :) ).

I do really like my GT and the only reason I was thinking of keeping it is I have 3.5k left on the loan. Also did some research on getting into the 03/04 cobra and its def within my range! I think I will heed you alls warning and wait for the 03/04 cause damn its just plain sick car.

Speaking of the 2011 GT i just dont have the finances to back up a brand new 30k+ car even though it is very impressive.

#17 ·
with the car loan market right now, I'd rethink the whole 03/04 vs 11 thing.

03/04 cobras do not have the book value to cover their cost in most cases, so thats problem #1 & you'll never get a decent intrest rate on a car that old, problem #2.

if you can't afford an 11 with your car & 10k ish down, how do you think your gonna afford to keep your car (or any of the other options) & pay a high intrest note on a 20k car?

don't mean to rain on your parade, but a reality check was in order.

10,000 That had to be spent ???? Then i would buy a new Litre Bike Like Say a 2011 CBR1000rr , or wait a little longer and get 2012 . Just my $.02

$10,000? My opinion, built motor, like MMR900 setup. Its an extra like $300 if you ever want to make more power. Thats about $2700.

Buy a used supercharger setup, Vortech, Procharger, or Kenne Bell. Buy the rest of the **** youll need, say fuel/maf thats like $2500, thats $5200 roughly.

Get your heads ported, or buy ported heads and some blower cams. $1500 ish.

Buy a Cobra fuel tank with hat, dual 255lph with a modified FPDM and 60lb injectors. Thats probally $1000. Probally less, but just in case. Your still at $7700.

You can easily find someone to do a auto swap. But an auto would be great for the track. Its up to you.

Then if your spending all the money on your car, do suspension. subframes, lca's, shocks/struts, springs, brakes, etc.... Jesus I wish I had $10k. Looking at this thread makes me jealous as ****

#22 ·
im not sure where you get all your prices but truth is i used your math when i built my motor and it ended up closer to 6k due to the small parts and upgrades. hell i have about a grand in bolts in mine. a really nice built set of heads are going to cost you if you do all the proper steps.

#23 ·
MMR900 shortblock is like $2700. Blower cams - $600, i left out springs and ****, get his heads ported is how much like $800?

You can get a used s/c kit for $2500.

I dont think my prices are that far off to be honest

#25 ·
gotta side with stal on this one bro.
it's the small stuff that'll kill you, it's not a stretch to have 1k plus in quality gaskets & bolts.
800 for head porting? mabie from a blind guy in the "hood" but double that for a quality job.
it adds up quick bro.

10k is a bunch to dump into mods, but if doing high quality work with high quality parts on a stock car, it wouln't get you very far.

#26 ·
My bad, I thought I read on MHS that he did stage 1 ports for $800. Oops my fault.

And yea I didnt even think of gaskets/bolts and that ****.

But still 10k is good to buy a built bottom end and a used supercharger kit

#27 ·
& you see how far that got you?

you need to alow money in the budget to build the WHOLE car, not just "OMG/FTW I've got a blower & my ****'s puttin' 450+ to the tires, but I'm scared to drive it & break something because I spent all my money on a blower & I've got a stock trans/rear & susp".

that isn't a reflection on you personally Shaun, but it is the mentality of the "live for the moment" guys who are new to building cars.

you go down the street in the whole car, not just a saddle on the motor, so why wouldn't you build the whole car?

#30 ·
Lol awkward. Nah I agree, but $10,000 wouldnt build the whole car. Obviously you know that, but I ment if his goals are 600rwhp, then he'll need a built motor for it. Which is probally the most expensive part. So he'd be better buying that and obviously a blower.

Then whatever money you got left, if you really want to spend all that $10000 on the car, then work on things like suspension, rear end, brakes, etc.

Just my opinion, if I had money, Id have a built motor/suspension done by now.

Casper is smarter and thinks ahead, rather then people that are like me and are just like **** it, Ill deal with it when it breaks. And when it does, where ****ed :lmao

#33 ·
I hear ya, I threw togeather a very broad list and I wasnt thinking of all the other stuff that you acually need.

#34 ·
one day i will do a break down of how much i have spent on this car but right now it breaks my heart to think of how much everthing has cost me. not that its not worth it, just maybe not the best way to spend my money.

#39 ·
also if you really have 10k just sitting in the bank your williing to just blow on your 90,000 mile GT at once then thing about it before you do it. I think its kind of dumb. If your really into cars invest in something thats worth investing. Not saying that in a mean way but if i had a new edge GT and 10k, i would have that **** sitting in my front yard with a for sale ad looking at termi's and vettes on craigslist.

#40 ·
^ :lmao wow that was cold. I thought you were nice stal :lmao

#43 ·
Lol, I feel stupid talking around people like stal and casper. Their to smart for me

#45 ·
:lmao leave grandpa alone!

jk stal

Edit, jk means just kidden incase you werent up to date :D

#50 ·
if you dont go the cobra route, here is my opinion..... mmr mod900, stock heads, stock cams, stock intake, acufab tb/plenum setup, on3 turbo kit, 4200rpm stall and jmod v-body, upr adjustable uca and solid lowers, return style fuel system. All that can probably be had for less than 10k and you have 9 second capabilities.....

#51 ·
A word of advice, spending 10 grand on a GT is 10 grand you'll never see again. I've spent so much money on my GT I can not sell my car and even come close to ever getting the money I have invested. So I'm stuck with keeping my car forever and now it's a show car.

Go for a 03/04 Cobra or spend your money on something else.

#53 ·
IMO it never makes sense to sell your car to buy a new one. If you put that same amount of money into your current car it would smoke whatever you would buy. I've been thinking about dumping similar amounts of money into a new engine blower combo, but the damn CA smog nazis keep making it more difficult (I'll probably end up with a gt500 swap). I would call up L&M engines and tell them what you want. Then buy a blower and you will have a super fun car! But this assumes that you already have suspension and brakes. If you don't then spend 5K on the blower / fuel setup, and 5K on suspension parts. It will be bad ass for sure (thats pretty much what I did).

Very true! And owing just over 2 grand on it its alot closer to being yours to so whatever you want with it vs owing 20+grand on another vehicle.
