I'm going with some 10th anniversary cobra wheels from a friend 18x9/10 ....so the fronts have 255/45 with 60-70% tread left and rears have 285/40 bald needing new rubber.......so my question is what's the biggest widest rear tire can I get on a 10" rim without worrying about bulge ? When its time to replace the fronts also what's a good ideal size for the 9" rim ?.........also I'm lowered on BMR springs if that helps.

i think you can squeeze a 305/45/18 on the rear, it will be really fun!! plus such an aggressive stance!! besides you dont want a 4x4 look anyways.

I always wanted 10th anniversary wheels, another option is what I run 305-40-18 nitto NT555R. They're the perfect height and width in my opinion

A 305/40/18 should "ideally" ride on an 11" rim. The 305/45/18's ideal rim size would be a 10" rim. The 285/40 is another perfect tire size for your 10" rim.

Hey Kona... For me, a 10" rim in rear with a Nitto 555R 305/40/18 was the perfect size. This gave me a 27.7" overall diameter which was very close to the stock 27.0". A 305/45/18 has a 28.8" diameter (higher) and I did not want to lose any rear gearing.
FYI...Nitto suggests following rim range sizes...
305/40/18 ..... 10.0" safe min (11.0" ideal) to 12.0"
305/45/18 ..... 9.5" safe min (10.0" ideal) to 11.5"

I wouldn't have an issue running the shorter tire on the 10" rim because it falls within the manufacturer's specs. But you asked for ideal.

To me, this is ideal.

Gearing should have been worked out when you came up with a plan for your build. I have an effective gear ratio of 3.85 or something like that.

My current gears are 3.73's......also what about a 295/35 ?

The sizes currently on there are ideal.
More than likely I'll stick with those sizes that's on there now...

A 295/35 is just over 26" tall. Way too short.

I just got some 295/40/18 just so I could stay out of a DR. Running NT05s

I got the 305/40/18 because it was the perfect hight for ME like I said this is just my opinion but I've ran into a lot of other s197 in my area that run this same set up, The height worked out great and the width is fine on a 10 inch rim. I dunno how true it is but some say that Nitto NT555r run less wider than any other drag radial and have posted pictures of a NT555r in 305 width to be the same or less as a 295 or was it a 285? I'll try and dig up the picture!

Agreed nitto does seem to run narrower than other brands. I was running 275/40/18 on all four but wanted a bit more width on the rear so got the 295. Still have 275 upfront all nt05 for now. Might try the falken Azeris next. Debated on a DR in the rear but I don't drag it really so I figured I better go with something that would offer more longevity

For what it's worth, Whiskey runs 285/35/18 (Hankook Ventus) on 10" wheels all around. I know 'cause I plan to copy his set up. I think Big Chris is running 285/40/18 (Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar) on the same wheels. Again, I've been keeping track since I need to upgrade my stock set up this year.

So I like the way yours sits what size are you running all around ?

The difference is roughly 0.3in x 0.4in.
Is that much of a difference in fitment ....meaning would I have issues or will it bulge out on the rim ?

Check the tire size/rim fitment chart on the manufacturer's website. Everybody has one for their tires.

as far as nitto nt555 on there site the best 2 sizes for a 10" rim fitment is 285/40/18 & 295/45/18

they fit rim sizes 9"-11" but 10" being the ideal size
