My Mustang has never hit the 30k mile mark for its first major service in its 11 years, so I had some work done on it this past Sat. I had new Motorcraft spark plugs, injector flush, and For Racing 8.5mm wires put on, and wow, what a difference! First gear isnt even the same anymore. My plugs were kind of gross, a couple rusty.
With that, and my CAI, my mpg should improve as long as I can keep my lead foot out of the throttle!!

The small things are always what makes such a huge improvement and this was a great example. I cant wait to get exhaust!!! :D

Good to hear man. Once you get a PI intake, it will be that same feeling times ten.
Whats the whole deal with the PI swap? Is it JUST the intake, or is there more to it? I always read about people who do the swap, but its a lot more than just the intake (cams, heads, etc) is that part of the total swap, or is that just extra stuff that is easy to do while you're swapping the intake?

I'm the second owner of the car. I work at a dealership, so when it was traded in, I was one of the first people to get to the car. Which when I did, I kept the keys until I went to go find out some numbers! I bought it on a total whim, but I use to really like Mustangs when I was younger, and as a nice daily driver is really sweet. It's not my top choice for colors, but I can deal with white :)

although I still really want to get rid of those all saddle colored door/rear panels and get some black/saddle ones.

the pi swap includes the intake manifold, heads, and cams from the 99+ mustang gts. it will bump your compression to 10:1 i think but the difference is huge. i think its estimated you gain like 40-50 hp from those three.

Or if you work at the dealership!!! :D
u might be able to get the smaller miscellanious parts cheaper at a dealership, but i garuntee they charge u an arm and a leg for the heads...

Not when you know the people I know :) I'll still shop around though, I have no problem getting it somewhere else if I can get it cheaper. I would like to get the PI swap done, but right now I've got to put a little love into the Monte Carlo for now.

PI swap requires you to use 91+ octane gas right?

i use 93 no matter what.... but yea, i believe because of the bump in comression u can't use regular

my manual recommends regular (87) but I use 93 because it runs better.. question that might save drix some money.. i heard that if you do the PI swap but leave the cams from the NPI that you'll actually have slightly more power than a new edge gt because of the cam profile.. i believe i read it on here, but don't remember it's been awhile..

well ur gonna have more power than a 99+ gt just form the compression bump alone but idk about using the nPI cams. I think you could use 87 octane fuel but ur gonna have to pull some timing to do it.

If you can find something to verify that, I'd really appreciate it! I like the sound of that! Swapping just the heads and intake sounds so much easier too.

if it does put it at 10:1 compression, you definitely need premium fuel. The engine in my Monte is 10:1 and it definitely needs 91+, and runs at 34 or 36 degrees of advance in the timing.

dude... if you can, i would try and keep that car garaged and as a weekend driver only! with that few miles, that'll be worth a lot down the road

I can only understand that as I look outside at my 1976 Monte Carlo and think back to where it might have been in lets say...1987, and some guy telling the then owner, "I would try and keep that car garaged and as a weekend driver only! with that few miles, that'll be worth a lot down the road!!"

It just doesnt have the same effect with the mustang now, as it would 20+ years from now. lol.

I dont put a whole ton of miles on any of my cars in the first place, and I take immaculate care of all of them as well, I think if I still have the mustang years down the road, it will be one of those "driven yet spectacularly maintained" mustangs!

that is a good read (have read it many times) but i still say go full PI. PI heads will out flow nPI. ya u can p&p them but if u p&p PI heads they will out flow p&p nPI heads. if u wanna keep miles off ur car do like i did and buy a bike:D

:withhomo

u wanna save on gas... a bike is the best way to go!
