from what I can gather after reading various hood pin threads its more about functional versus aesthetic. I'm not concerned about that, I'll be buying a functional kit (why have it if it does nothing IMO), but picture after picture I've noticed the placement is pretty different across the board.

I'm curious if there is a general rule of thumb when placing them or if it depends on stripe size, manufacturer specs or personal choice?

I just want to keep the look of my car as authentic as possible and as close to a retro look as possible when it comes to my exterior styling. I haven't been able to find any articles yet about placement outside of a few pictures of old mustangs.

Just curious about that because I've noticed it doesn't seem to have any standard I can find (with my limited mustang knowledge anyways). I'm just learning as I go along and work slowly adding parts to build the mustang I want. Pins seems like a nice exterior touch to help the car throw itself back in time a weee bit. :p

I went with Scott Drake / Shelby pins...on metal brackets attached to radiator supports:

It's generally just a matter of preference, but in my case it was more of a matter of necessity. I NEEDED to have the pins on the outside of my hood. It's fiberglass, and at higher speeds, the sides would shake like crazy... it was terrifying. Also, I just think they look a heck of a lot better on the outside. Here are a couple pics of mine.

I use the Scott Drake ones as weel, but I turned my brackets upside down to move the pins a touch to the inside 'cause the way my strips are on my hood. They just looked better than where I originally marked to drill.

If I would have put them in the "right" way they would have been half on and half over the side of the strip. This way they are at least somewhat contained in the outline of the stripe.

Awesome guys!

Thanks so much.

I was definitely curious as to what might be a good position to locate them at. I've finally got the go ahead from my GF to do some things (yea...I know) and these are one thing I thought would help the overall look and feel of the car.

I just had no idea being a noob if I'd mount them in some way that would insult my car or make it look silly. I'd say I have a pretty good idea of how I'd want them mounted on my car now.

Now I just want a stripe too

[edit] oh..and beautiful cars guys...every one of them.

imo, krispyrob, that is the best looking front end pic i have ever seen

where and how much was it for the roush bumper completely installed, painted, etc.

the hood is tight too, did you loose any weight by going with fiberglass?
Thanks :D I love it too... she's so beautiful. Anyways, to answer your question... well, I can't really... I got in an accident back in october and decided to replace the hood and front bumper with these instead of stock (Free upgrades! Yay for insurance!). Since I was having the dealer do the rest of the work, they did this too.

They ordered the Roush front bumper pre-painted from roush, just paid the MSRP for it that's listed on roush's site ($950)... They charged me an extra hour of labor or so over the install price of the stock fascia due to the installation of the fog lamps. I think it was like 2.5 hours of labor or something like that.

The hood is from RKSport, they are out of California. The weight loss reduction (if any) is negligible, our stock hood is Aluminum anyways, so you aren't looking at much. It's a $700 hood, cheaper than the almost $1000 ford charges for a new hood of ours lol.

The dealership painted it as well, did a great job, painted the underside and the topside. They billed me for 2.8 hours of work, but I know it took longer, the guy had to re-prep it after one attempt because he wasn't happy with the way it turned out. Kudos to Brandon Ford's Collision Center, they are great at what they do.

Honestly, if you shop around, I'm sure you can find the Roush front fascia for much less, and get it painted for way less than the dealer charges... I ended up paying $400 out of pocket for the upgraded parts. Not bad for two grand worth of stuff, ehh?

Mine on the outside and Erin's more on the inside...all based on type of hood pins, hood and a little preference.

I went with the Joe heck racing ones. they come with new billet upper radiator support brackets that have a hole with threads that the pins go into.
Joe Heck Racing - Online Parts it is the 5th product down on the page, I havent updated my photobucket yet with good pix of my new hood and the hood pins.

I did he same as that ****^
I still remember holding your hand through that process. The hardest part though was converting all the measurements to Canadian...how the hell was I supposed to know that 1 Foot = 1/3rd of a Broomhandle?!? :dunno

And I remember how excited you were when you finally got it right. *sniff* that was the day you became a man...Your mother and I were so proud! ;)
