exactlly, I almost feel like i shouldint be posting because I still have my 355's but i have owned other cars and i have done gear changes. Mickey makes a point. As long as you arent coming in and saying 410's FTW just because you have a set, people should realize that like Mickey and Nasty said...there isint one answer for this question

I totally agree. I took a long time deciding on my combo and the only person that can tell me it's wrong is me. And what works for me with my driving style and abilities might not work for someone else who can't drive as well as I can..

No offense to the guys here, but the S197 forum has a lot more guys that race their cars....4:10s for a reason

Ken and werent "quibbling" in the least. We agreed that anyone is gonna do what they wanna do and there is no right or wrong answer. I have noticed that people on this forum like to jump on the train with whats popular in a thread...if the first 5 people in the thread give the same answer, almost no one is gonna throw out a different one
That's a key point mick - S197 has a lot of heavily involved track guys, guys running often on prepped surfaces, on a full slick or very sticky tire.

Here we have a lot of street drivers, heavily weighted in fact. That go to the track occassionally. Within that, a lot of us, including myself run a 20" wheel and the car is Street first, run a number second.

Dancing all over the street is only fun for so long, it gets old relatively quick. 4.10's on a street tire, on the street itself equates to 1st gear sucks ass, so does half of second, and a good portion of third.. On a drag radial, it's a different story..

If my car was a dedicated track car I'd run 4.56's and run around yelling don't fear the gear.

Bottom line, I'm annoyed by my 4.10's on the street. I'm moving to a 3.73 and very excited to do so. Again mines street car first, and the track times are secondary. I'm simply tired of jockeying the thing around all the damn time. It's only been that way since the blower came. N/A I was fine with it.

I think it's funny how much the attitude towards gear ratios has changed since I joined up. I had a lot of good (I thought) reasons for going with 3.73s from the get-go a year and a half ago and all I heard was "4.10 FTMFW!!! Don't fear the gear!!!"...and now people with poweradders are actually swapping the 4.10s for 3.73...and I don't have to...:tomato

why don't you go with a 3:90 just to through it out there, haven't heard of many people running it it might be something you would want to look into if you're tore on 3:73 or a 4:10

I was looking at 3.90's until I decided to go with the bigger tires. I think that is a great choice and good compromise. I have run them on 2 of my previous cars ('70 Challenger and '69 Chevelle). One issue is that FRPP does not make that ratio. You would probably have to go with Motive (boo hoo), or Richmond. Richmond gears are awesome but a little noisy because they are bult for racing not the DD.

3.55 r lower pending on what you are looking for.I am into road racing so I need the balance of top end and acceleration. The KB more than makes up for the lower gear ration and the gears alow me to hit 6th

I got the motive 3.90's now and love them but I an swaping down to 3.55 or lower because I need the top end to be higher for what I do

thats one thing that the 4.10s arent the best for. not only top end; but when i had my 331s it was just 2nd in turns know i need to shift into 3rd in some that i could just keep in 2nd before and i think it actually slows me down... i

I think it's funny, too. It's a bunch of sheep.
