what kinda suspension mods does it take to do a wheelie?

You can do it with the stock set up if you have enough power. The requirements to do it repeatedly are more along the lines of stong parts so the car won't break.

I'd say if you have about 800rwhp and sticky enough tires, you can get the tires off the ground if you have a tubular front k memeber, a arms and no sway bar. Coil overs all around. A new set of extreme duty rear lower control arms, a set of adjustable uppers. Full Cage and some fat ass slicks. Very doable. Remember, the lightness up front makes it easier, and the traction makes it happen. Nothing more than your normal suspension parts are required. Its really more about the power and traction.

could it be done N/A (about 350 vs 800 rwhp)? i think that would be awesome to be at a stop light, have some douch civic pull up and wanna race, then do a wheelie

you would have to do a faaaat burnout to heat up your faat slicks first

If you had some hugely fatty slicks. A total drag suspension set up. All tubular front with an aluminum block and every lightening thing you can find. You might be able to pop a wheely at a light with 400hp. But its going to be REALLY unlikely.

With street slicks there was a guy I knew of on Mustang Forums running a 800hp KB termi, that could get his front wheels off the ground on the street. Not a full on wheelie, but he could hop them off the ground. This guy had the works for suspension though. Were talking an all out drag car.

On the street you have to also remember, there is no rubber groove to help your traction. So you have to really have monster traction and power to even think about popping that thing off the ground. Now move the engine into the trunk, now you might have a chance.

oh dang, there goes that idea

ha ha well it was a good question, though. I kinda wanted to know, too

Ok seeing that this is a suspension guide I have a question on rear coil overs.

Just installed some MMR rear coilovers 12"-250lbs springs with Comp Engineering 3 way drag shocks and not happy. The shocks are set at 50/50. The Mustang sits at stock ride height or a bit higher. I have adjusted it so that there are only 4 threads still left.
Why am I having this problem?
The rear of the mustang is sitting 3 1/2" higher than the front. The front has Eibachs sport lines and Tokico struts.
Everything went in smooth and was to remove a "rear upper shock mount" but could not see or find any.

The bad shocks may make a clunking sound if they are bottoming out and stuff. I would take it to a shop though, its hard to diagnose a sound without hearing it.

The rear coil overs has a couple of things. One is, everything is installed correctly? Next, are you sure that is the correct spring length. I believe you can get a 10" spring that will give you a greater range of adjustability. I would call Maximum Motorsports and talk to them, they are fantastic to talk to.

torque: how many miles are on the springs? it takes a couple hundred for them to settle

Thanks guys!
The springs are brand new and everything was install according to the instructions. Didn't even take it out for fear of doing damage.
I was also told last night that maybe I should have gone with a shorter spring.
I'm going to call MMR in a couple of hours and see if they can shead some light.
I will post up what they say, I was trying to figure this out without calling them oh well.

In general I would agree, but Maximum Motorsports are such great guys to talk to. I wouldn't hesitate calling them.

Its true the spring will settle, but they will not settle 3 inches.

heres my question, if u really want ur stang to handle and carve corners, why dont u just convert to a 03-04 cobra IRS and scrap the donkey kart technology for a rear end. I keep debating this...
thats been discussed alot in this thread if u read the whole thing

OK I called MMR before noon E.S.T. (Modular Mustang Racing...they are a good brand and pretty much equal to MM) and we discussed all of the questions I had. Ended up that everything was done correctly, it is just the height of the spring was way to much. MMR told me to go with a 10" spring but I opted for a 9" spring seeing that I have all that adjustment. I might take pics after the shorter springs are installed.

Sounds about right.

The IRS question has been torn apart pretty good. The best answer I have not seen yet though. There was a guy posting a while back about their IRS set up that they put in instead of the 3 link set up. I want to see what their results are since the switch.

To answer the question simply, the IRS is actually a bit worse than the 3 link. You can read the rest of the thread for the reasoning.
