I was thinking the same thing that I should do this. But don't you think that 1K for a four cylinder car is kinda a bit too much? I'm trying to figure out what the normal idle rpms are for my car.

This is common when the air filter has the maf behind it, and is exposed to high velocity wind. When people pull the headlight its even more common. It could be something else, but if i described your setup, then that is the issue. The reason behind it is that the air blows thru the filter onto the maf, but does not really go into the engine. The ecu adds a ton of fuel to compensate for the huge rush of air seen at the maf, but the air never makes it in so it stalls out. If this is not your setup, then the tune could use a little more adjusting to dial it in better.

So, Trick besides a K&N what other intakes are good? Is a JLT good without any problems or should I just go back to the normal stock airbox maybe with a K&N air filter thrown in?

I am running a JLT and they are notorious for this. i even tried making a nice little air box to deflect the rush or air but still didnt work so I may try a RAI like C&L and see how it does.

Hey, thanks Raither.. This is exactly the answer that I was looking for, man. I think I might be going back to the stock airbox and just throw a K&N air filter in in. I'm still gonna keep modding though. My next mods will be a flowmaster catback and a steeda short throw shifter. So I take it that ALL aftermarkt intakes will cause this problem that me and you (raither) are having?

More specifically its the ones that put the maf directly behind the air filter in the fender well.

hey acid so do you only use 1/3 of a can or tha whole can of seafoam?

I would have liked to have it idle under 1k, but if I adjusted the screw for a lower idle, the car sputtered at idle.

1/3rd.

basically you can do 3 things at once with 1 can.

1/3rd for cleaning imrcs
1/3rd in the gas tank for injectors
1/3rd in the oil about 200 miles before an oil change. (Dont go any further than 250 after putting it in the oil.)

UPDATE: I've been told that my TPS could possibly be the problem.. At idle in neutral at a dead stop car fully warmed up the TPS is at "19" per the scangauge. Good or bad, guys?

Well it isn't the tps, and the iac.. So My next fix will be replacing the battery. Thanks again for all of the help guys.
Personally I really doubt it's the battery. I just had a bad battery which was barely starting the car and it still ran perfect once started.

I really would look at fuel, & tuning first and foremost.

Have you used a fuel pressure gauge yet to see if there is a big drop before it dies? Doesn't matter how new the pump is, if your ECU says cut back the flow the new pump will do just that. Might help you determine what to look at further.

No acid, haven't used a fuel pressure gauge. I was thinking that maybe a dyno tune would help fix this problem. I'm sure they are knowledgeable enough to figure it out. Thanks for the reply, man.

Just make sure they know that before you show up.

I'd hate to see some other issue be the real cause while they tune....

Most tuners will be watching the ECU quite closely and might find something immediately once you get rolling.

Depending on what it is they might refuse to tune the car until the issue is fixed. Certain things like bumping up voltage to help out a dying pump will cause major issues when the part gets fixed for instance.

So depending on what's wrong, they might inform you it's not safe to tune the car until it's fixed. Once they have a baseline they will feel much better about tweaking things.

I'm not a tuner myself but I've had friends who went and got turned down for something basic being wrong. Just a heads up.
