Hey Mustang buddies, I've been reading this forum since Christmas when I got my 99 GT 35th ann. I have a VEXING problem...:sorry My check engine light stays on and when it starts blinking I lose power. When it stops blinking and just remains lit my power returns. This happens usually until it's warmed up then it seems to stop. ...But not always. The handheld keeps saying number 2 cylinder misfire so we replaced the coil and all 8 plugs to factory gap. New TPS, MAS, Good 93 octane. ...stil throws cyl number 2 misfire.

Mods:
X pipe minus cats with flos
stock tune

She will smoke the tires off the rims when the service engine light stops blinking. Are these two problems related? I need a guru...

stop driving it until you get it fixed. whenever the CEL blinks that means that it is missing pretty bad. I was experiencing the same thing before and it turned out that one of the wires going to my coil had internally split and not making a proper connection. but take the COP and move it to another spot to see if the code follows that COP.

If you already replaced the coil and plug and it didn't work then I would bet it's the injector. Mine did the same thing. Flashing CEL, no power, shaking like a miss (to the point where I wouldn't drive it). It was an injector at just 50k miles.

wow.... im getting old:( i totally missed that "new coil" thing:sorry yeah check to make sure your injector is still squirting like 03 said and go from there.

it is fuel problem for sure i agree with everyone above. dont drive anymore until its fixed, also check injectors and fuel pressure and regulator to.

Yeah, it Idles like it's cammed out and the car shakes. Looks cool but it's obviously a problem. We did all the coil-see-if-it's-sparking tricks and she's throwing GOOD spark so its def not the fire. This is my first modern Mustang, my last was a Mustang 2 with a 302 Boss so All these computers and sensors are a mystery to me up to a point.

How does one go about changing out the injector... or at least testing this theory? I am new to these engines and I have to say I am IN LOVE even with the problems.:yes

The injectors are pretty easy to install. Loosen the fuel rail (2 bolts), disconnect the injector, pull up on the fuel rail, pull out injector.

Without looking, cylinder 2 might be under the intake? You might have to remove some stuff to get to it first.

unbolt the 2 volts that hold the injector down. They may be covered by a cap or something. Get a paper towel and set it next to you. Get a long and think flat head screw driver and find a nice flat spot on the manifold and slowly pry up on the fuel rail. Go slow and easy it may take some force to pop up but dont be brutal. As you slowly pry it up some of the inectors may pop out from the fuel rail instead of the manifold. Fuel is going so spill out. This is where the paper towel comes in

Once the fuel rails up unplug the #2 injector and replace it with your injector. Easiest way to reinstall it is plug all the injectors into the fuel rail. Then with your hands line them all up into there holes on the manifold and push them down with your hands so they stay. Then put the 2 bolts back on and slowly go between the screwing it down giving them easy presuse. Make sure the entire time that the injectors are going into there holes properly.

DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. Once the bolt stops turning stop lol.

Turn the key half way and prime the system and check for leaks. IF no leaks then start the car and ta da! you fixed your car
