why would you bother with a 351 boss block if all you want is 700rwhp?
Just like any other "goal", I'm sure that won't be enough someday. Plus piece of mind... My buddy has the boss 302, and it's a really cool block. What's the regular 351 rated for? I have no idea...

ratings aren't really useful for stock blocks. it depends on everything. you could have a 300hp motor with an out of balance rotating assembly and kill one. you need good machine work and good parts.

earlier blocks (69-74) i believe people "rate" them around 1000 hp. roller blocks i think some say 800hp. you can buy retro-fit lifters to use a hydraulic camshaft in a non-roller motor. if i were going for big power (n/a 600 or more) i would have the block cryogenic treated and have it machined for 4 bolt splayed mains.
 
I would like to build a Full Forged D.S.S 331 Shortblock using the Boss Block and a Novi 2000
With an aftermarket block why stay 4.03" bore, nothing but good to gain going 4.125". With 3.25 stroke thats 347cid, now i'm not sure if it's true or false that 3.4 is too much for Boss block but if not the i'd go with that. Dart SHP isn't much more than Boss and it can handle the stroke...
 
FastStang, don't mind some of these guys, ModdedMustangs also serves as a therapy group for angry men whoes uncles used to lay them on their bellys, with their underware on backwards.
 
The 306 combo you list will be fine for what you are wanting to do with it. Its a pretty common combonation.


As far as your 331/Novi 2000 making 700 HP, thats a pretty good stretch. Below is a link to a buddy's car. Its a Boss block 331 with a YSI it made 775 HP. It is possible, but you have to have all the RIGHT parts to get there. I do believe he is running a custom cam of some sort. I really don't think you'll come close to 700 with the Novi though.

The only issue I have doing the 4.125 short stroke 347 is that if I blow her up and score the cylinder walls, I would be screwed. That IS the max bore. My buddy just went 30 over and did the 347 the normal way leaving him room, just in case to be able to bore it again and again if need be. Though one would think that with a good tune, that shouldn't be an issue.

As far as the Novi doing 700 at the wheels... yes, that is a stretch. 625-650 rwhp is more doable. The YSI is way better suited for the big numbers. The more I research that blower, the more I am leaning towards it. F1 would be great too, lol. It all depends what Ebay has to offer over the next winter or so. I don't mind used parts if it saves me lots of coin.
 
umm boss block.. why not a 366? hurd my tuner talking about it to another one of his customers.

this has to be one of the most stupidest things I have heard. Just because someone cant/doesnt/wont throw big money at something doesnt make it wrong, or stupid or not worthy of it.

The reason there are 400000000000000 different cams, heads, intakes, blocks, headers etc etc etc is because theres different level of people who enjoy hot rodding. Yes, if you dont spend the money someone will be faster, but if you are enjoying the car, enjoying putting parts on it and enjoying the results, what does it matter if you dont have a EFI renegade car in your garage, or a gt40 top end 302 with a small shot. Does it make it wrong to use parts you wouldnt use? NO, Does it mean its gonna be better or worse than your set up? who cares.


Last I checked Mustank, you werent in any record books, or asked to make any appearances for any speed shop or go fast company.
 
Less money = people whinning about budget and cutting corners... Saying the car has be together by the end of the month...So slap it together....

+1 thats what im about. yeah i like the speed, but i dont have to spend high dollar on parts when im happy with what i have. if thats slower than Mustanks mustang, thats fine, i doubt i will EVER see or meet him. and sure this is a forum and we all look for other peoples advice, but that in no way gives you the go ahead to bash everyones... EVERYONES setup because they dont have the money or just dont wanna do exactly what you think should be done. Mustank you have got to be the cockiest person on this forum.. you HAD to have been a single child

so what if it has to be together by the end of the month, maybe its the only car they have, or they spot it is parked has to be cleared.

if they slap it together its their choice, their car, their time, their efforts.

whats it matter to you, you dont have a dollar or minute in any of these cars

Its his car and he can do what he wants with it....Then why the **** is here??? Lookin for people to rub is balls thats all..........
