Take them off, I never liked the look of them. Yes they can rub the paint and some are prone to rusting inside the plastic sleeve.

i know they can rub the paint but does anyone know for sure? if they do rust i will take them off for sure.

if they are the FRPP then the pins and loop will also rust. I've had them on my 98 for about 5 months. They were showing rust in the first month. sucks cleaning them. Scott Drake is the way to go for hood pins.

I've had mine on with lanyards since jast june, with probably 5000 miles, and there is absolutely no sign of damage to the paint...

i do have the scott drakes. and i still cant get a real answer some say it messes up the pain some dont. so what do i do?

Do whichever you like the look of better. If you see it starting to mark the paint, catch it early and you'll be able to fix it. But personally mine have had no effect on the paint. It might be a good idea to leave them off for a week or two though untill the new paint on the hood is completely cured.

I have had my lanyards on for about 10000 miles now and no damage what-so-ever. I did have to call Scoot Drake after about 7 months, the cables had started rusted like the others said. They sent me a new pair for free. They claimed that the new pair was their all weather/ocean coast improved line. So far, 8 months later, no rust.

To answer your question, I like the look of the lanyards. I also like how you went ahead and mounted yours to the outside. If I get another hood down the road, I am going to move mine out as well. Love the look man.

Also, I have gone plenty fast with them and still no paint damage.

now thats the kind of answer i was looking for!! thanks. i still would like to know if anyone else has had other experiences

You can replace the lanyards with ones from Home Depot no problem if they rust. I have had my lanyards on all the time and never had any rubbing of paint

:wtf who goes to Home Depot to get lanyards for hoodpins?! I've got the FRPP hoodpins. The hoodpins are **** and rust like nobody's business, but the lanyard is great with no rust. I have some slight rubbing from the lanyard, but I don't think it would look right without them. Also, you could put a small piece of clear vinyl between the lanyard and hood to prevent scratching.

Scott Drake is the way to go...NOT Home Depot :p

i had *planned* on taking mine off (lanyards), but after i saw them on the car after the install i liked it....so they got left. No rust or wear on mine yet but its only been 2 months or a little less.

Any pics of those from the Home Depot?

Anything that flops around, moves even the slightest at speed *will* scratch or mar the clear coat. If you have black it's severely noticeable. Just because there's rubber coating it doesn't mean it's protecting the paint.

Check it often, extra attention goes a long way.. Those with light color cars are lucky. I'd like to put the lanyard back on, not gonna happen again though.

just took my car to get the hood done. they said they would guess 2-3 hours for them to install the hood pins. that's around 125 bucks. sounds a bit steep to me. my wife wants me to just let them do it so i won't have to worry about the paint chipping if i did it after it was out of the shop.

hey erin, did you have to do anything when you installed the pins. asking since you have the same hood
