I'm not bashing efi , I'm just sick and tired of all the carb bashing. From day one I've always maintained that as long as efi is running fine it's hard to beat, but if it's not there can be a hundred things causing it to act up. A bad wire, ground , or something clogged can cause any number of problems, afterall we are talking about 20 + year old stuff here. There's nothing wrong with a carbed setup. My carbed 86 would crank right up, idle all day long, was very snappy, and would pull to redline without a hiccup. Plus it was cheap and it's cheap to tune, a screwdriver, small socket set , a jet kit and air bleeds are far cheaper then paying a tuner. Sure it may take some time and there's a learning curve but I'd rather spend my time at a test and tune then at a shop getting a tune. As far as gas mileage is concerned , if i cared about that I'd drive a fiesta.

I never said if carb setup was better just better suited for me. I get way to frustrated with trackin down sensors, bad wires etc on a 18 year old car. Plus Im not experienced enough to tune an EFI setup. I think they both have their high n low points. If you dont like herain about us carbed guys dont read this thread. Oh n that video is Tities!!

I guess some people are a little sore on this subject.

Like I said in my previous post:

I will continue to use EFI and blow your doors off and get 25 mpg while doing it. If you don't care about fuel economy on a street car, that is fine. I do to a certain extent. I will not intentionally throw away horsepower for fuel economy but will enjoy good fuel economy when it is available. Making good power, running good numbers and getting good fuel economy in the process is cool any way you slice it.

I'm gonna call BS on that. Obviously the car WAS NOT tuned properly with the EFI, but also, when they switched to carb, IT GAINED AN ELECTRIC WATER PUMP!!! And who knows what else was changed in the process.
That video is not accurate at all. For starters, what intake did they put on with the carb swap? That alone could have been worth a good chunk of the gain, because the 2 piece intake was probably choking that motor to begin with. Look at the powerband for that engine. I'll bet they put a single plane intake on it and thats what woke it up. I'll also agree that that EFI car probably wasn't tuned properly to a small degree. And, if you had a cam optimized for EFI, chances are it wasn't designed with carb signal in mind, so most likely, switching to a carb alone wouldn't net a gain. Unless that cam was better suited to run a carb to begin with and wasn't running to it's full potential with the EFI on there.
Exactly. If they are going to make a comparison then it should be an apples to apples comparison. Instead of using the standard two piece intake they should have been using a Super Victor EFI which is a far superior intake. Besides that there are variables such as the water pump and other things. Did anyone else notice the car being higher up on the rollers when they did the pulls after the carb swap?
very very subjective and controversial video... for all we know, the car could have had a 70mm TB on it before...

I doubt you would see similar power gains in a car like mine... with its 90mm TB and Super Victor style intake..

****. my car would be a perfect car to test that on since I have a carb ready lower intake...
Power steering disappeared too.

JUST DON'T WAN'T PEOPLE THINKING THAT IF ALL ELSE STAYS THE SAME, SIMPLY SWAPPING ON A CARB WILL NET THESE RESULTS.

Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the only way that you will see gains in excess of the pill setting when spraying, is to have a cam and way better exhaust FOR nitrous. So that prolly points out a cam swap and possibly exhaust upgrades too.

Did anyone notice the car being higher up on the rollers when they did the carb runs or are my eyes decieving me? As strange as it sounds, that will make a difference.

Carbs do look much better... And I agree spending time at the track tuning is much more fun than at a chassis dyno. And Darrell Is correct about the placement of the wheels on the rollers making a big difference.

i am going carb on my car. anyone can tell me how they go about the throttle set up? i was wanting to buy 85 throttle linkage components.
I'm sorry to hear that.

The 85 Mustang 5 speed throttle cable is what you need. Then use a good throttle braket like one from AED. Don't forget about changing the fuel pump, fuel lines, regulator, distributor, etc.

All of the parts that I'd need for throttle hook up. so i can go to autozone and tell them I need a throttle cable for a 85 mustang Gt manual?

Got a link to a website that has the other stuff? brkts etc?

Yep, Autozone will have the throttle cable. I have bought a few of them from Autozone in my area anyway. The rest of the stuff you can get from Summit. AED makes one of the most kick ass throttle cable brackets. AED Performance Racing Carburetors, Holley Carburetors, and Performance Holley Carburetor Parts

You're wrong, you should bang the firewall under the gas pedal so that you can push it down farther which will make the car go much faster . :p

J/K , Have a cold one on me, it's pretty hot here and i'm thirsty but don't like to drink alone
