I changed the oil in my new motor for the first time yesterday and drove it around all day to get some more miles on it. The person who built the motor told me to start getting on it a little once I changed the oil for the first time. Well I checked the levels before I left the house this morning and it was almost 3qts low on oil. Why and what could have cause this. Motor now has right at 700 miles on it.

Leak?

oil burns blue. moisture/water would be white.

how many quarts did you put in when you changed it?

you burned 3 qts in a day?

its either leaking (this is good) or you are burning it (this is bad)

oh and if it is burning oil, dont tell the guy who build it you were getting on it. even if he told you to get on it. Tell him you were breaking it in and that its burning tremendous amounts of oil, and make sure he knows its nothing YOU did (i.e. driving like a maniac or "breaking it in" ;-) )

i just dont see how it could be a leak when there is zero oil on the ground where i park. and when i say getting on it i dont mean dropping the hammer and rapping out the rpms. i mean taking it to 4500-5000 rpms like he told me to do. yes almost 3 qts yesterday. i put almost 200 miles on the motor yesterday.

I mean you would notice a 3 qt leak without a doubt. When you changed the oil, when you drained the oil from the first oil change.... did you notice that not very much came out, or anything like that?

You only other option is that it is burning off some how. You see a lot of smoke when you drive it? Does it smell?

That's a shitload of oil to burn and I'm thinking a leak of that magnitude would be pretty noticeable.
I have an aftermarket Lokar oil dipstick. It looks cool, but it's not even close to accurate... just sayin'.

no quite a bit drained out from the change. i havent noticed any smell. it white smokes out of the exaust but that is all i notice. my windows are pretty freaking deark so it makes it difficult to see a smoke cloud when i am driving.

well i dont know if this helps or not but i just went out and checked the oil again. oil level is fine now as it sits. i am thinking is loses oil when i accelerate up to 4500-5000 rpms because i drove it normally on the way to work this morning and no oil loss

You would know if it burned 3 quarts in 200 miles. It would be smoking like hell. Leaks are obvious. Only other place oil could go is in your water. But you would have water and oil mixed on each side. I would put 3 more quts in it and try again. I will bet you that its fine from then on. Put whatever is needed in it and i bet all will be fine. Try it.

Get ready to rep baker.

it done this when i very first got the car running on the first 7 qts. replaced the oil that was lost and it was fine. now done it on this oil change. my question is this: Where the hell is the oil going and what the hell is causing it? This is very frustrating.
