i just need two new tires i have some really nice ones on the back (zr rated) and such, i dont remember what brand they are and i dont wana go out in the dark to check lol. but heres what i plan on doing.

i wana move the tires in the back to the front (the ones in the front are running out of tread) its okay to do this because all my wheels are 17x10 and 275/40/17
but should i go for a wider tire in the back. whats the widest i can go, (also with out breaking the bank) and when i go wider should i do a 40 profile are 35.... so many options

i live in louisiana so it doesnt snow or anything and i can use these tires all year round

So..... you want to move your semi-bald tires from front to back....? A 275 is max on a 9" wheel, so I think you should save for a brand new set.

no change out the bald tires, and then put the new tires on the back, and the better older new ones on the front
I would put the new tires on the rears.

okay lets start this over. i think i have 17x10 inch rims all around.
all of my tires are 275/40/17. the fronts are bald so i need to move the rears up, and put new tires on the back.
how wide should i go on the back, and what is a good tires that wont put me in to debt

Ya.... you are not gonna be runnin' a 10" wheel up front, unless you are a real cool cat that digs the twisties ;)

To find a tire that works for you, we need to know what kind of driving you will be doing.

PS. The wheel is measured from the inside of the lip, so need to subract the thickness of the rims. So 1/2" on either side makes you a 9" wheel :yes

possibly 17x9 up front and 17x10 in the rear. as 00Mustang said 17x10 would be too wide

are the lips on your front and rear wheels the same?

265 up front and 295 on the rears IMO.

The width of the tires contact patch and the width of th wheel in which it mounts, are not necessarily the same :no

You have a 9" wheel up front and your MAX tire is a 275, for a proper fit. I agree with Mr. Bitten above, 265 is a nice fit for such a wheel. A 285~295 out back on a 10" wheel is also a good fit for DD rides :yes
