when i run into the fender or bumper that curve in the pipe gives me a lag in throttle response so its not worth it and my cowlhood is pretty good at allowing heat to escape,it act allows abit rite underit and that hits onto the filter, plus i have a kinda ram thingy to pull air from under the car into the engine compartment under the filter where the stock air box was...
Trust me, it would be worthwhile to at least shroud it from the engine. Log your IAT's and you'll see. I have one heck of a cowl hood on my XR7...it's still better to block off the hot air from getting to the filter.

...and should i ditch my superchips tuner and use the cash from that and selling my 24's and mafs and get a xcal and custom tune??
Yes. Use that money to get a real tune.

You and I basically have the same mods. I had a calibrated Maf and 24lb injectors and on warm days I was running rich. I got a stock Maf from a salvage yard and an SCT tuner and it made a big difference. Now I can tell the difference that the pi intake and cams made. I plan on getting a good stage 1 cam and PI heads soon. The SCT tuner to me was worth every penny. I am very satisfied with it.
