Well after fighting with my 4R most of the season i have come to the conclusion that they are great for driving around but not for drag racing.
I removed it and have started building a C4 and purchased a PA bellhousing.
My question is does anybody on here know what crossmember to use?

T-56 crossmember turned backwards.

96-98 GT speed sensor wired in will keep your speedo

and a fox body drive shaft

You can, but its cutting two wires under the car and it plugs the hole or you run new wires off something to the front, six in one, half a dozen in the other

My biggest problem i had is after installing a 4000 converter i was'nt able to leave it in drive and let it shift it self? it would leave in limp mode, i talked to every tuner and trans guy i could and never was able to figure it out.
The best we could figure is the ECU see's the flash on the converter and thinks the trans is slipping.
So i call FAIRBANKS and they sell me they're shift kit, super plate, billet shift valves and some new tow go kit i have the guy on the phone and he's helping me with it, it get it installed with a new B&M ratchet shifter so i can shift it myself, i monkied around with trans pressures all season and could never get the thing to shift on time, i would have to shift at 5600 to get it to actually complete the shift by 6000 and it was still a sketchy deal at best.
It did shift better a lil with less pressure but still not near as good as my c-4 is on a bad day.
I plan on just drag racing it and i'm sure it will be faster with a c-4 so here i go!

y2k02 made a good thread with a parts list when he did his.

I'm working on a c4 swap as well. The transmission is currently at my transmission builder's shop being rebuilt. Below is of parts I have and still have to get:

Stuff I Have:

C4 Transmission Core
T56 Crossmember
PTC 4200 Stall Converter
Fox Body Aluminum Driveshaft
98 Mustang Speed Sensor
C Code Servo

Stuff I Still Need:

Lokar Flexible Dip Stick/Fill Tube (because I got a pan fill transmission)
PA Bellhousing
Flexplate (Not sure on this one...if you have a link to the specific flexplate you're using, I'm interested)
Turbo Action Cheetah shifter
Spare Console (because I'll have to cut it up to fit that shifter in)
Transmission Cooler
PA Reverse Manual VB w/Brake (Getting this used from a friend who is upgrading to a pro brake)

Hughes makes a pan fil dipstick, its what I had in my car

I have my stock cross over with a mount that I built to mount my c4 in my car. But T-56 will work too if you cant fabricate a mount out of some square stock and a welder.

yup, no prob, summit keeps them in stock, was like 50 bucks I think? this was a few yrs ago 2007/8

theres two dip sticks for a C4, case fill the common one and then pan fill not so common

A lot of the guys with chassis cars prefer the pan fill. I don't remember exactly why, but I think it has something to do with oil line fittings/oil flow. I was looking for a case fill, but wasn't able to find one in good condition.

I perfer the case fills. The pan fills have issues where certain valve bodies wont fit in them. Case fill with a PA locking dipstick (casefill) here. But no matter what dipstick, it has to be locking to be legal.

Also with a pan fill, depending on the year, the bellhousing doesnt mount to the pump.

Lastly, there is a pump mod that I do to all the race transmissions I build. It allows for much better fluid flow.

Thanks for the info. There's a lot about transmissions that I'm still learning. My transmission builder builds exclusively c4s (and a lot of them) so I've deferred to his expertise on a lot of stuff. He runs a c4 in his mid 5s roadster and has built a bunch for door cars as well, so I feel confident that he can build me a good one.
