Ok thanks for the info. I was thinking big bore. Can i do the 304.6 bore and still use p.i heads?
Yes, but as I said before, big bore does not equal cheap. Once again, what are you calling "cheap" and "high hp"? What are you looking for? I assume this needs to be pump gas friendly?

i understand what the big bore 304.6 is...since the op said CHEAP i figured that was kinda out of the question and standard boring the 4.6 out is gonna reach no were near this..

i still dont believe the op needs a built shortblock..defeats the whole purpose of cheap, and with either his HIGH compression or pi swap compression he isnt going to touch any kinda of numbers that even push the stock bottom end without boost or compression..so unless he's he decides to have a little fun with life and introduce some boost or spray to this motor there is NO need for a forged shortblock what so ever...cuz a 10.5:1 2v with whatever heads or cams he wants wont see 400rw n/a EVER

^ I agree.

Get a 4v shortblock...ie Mark ViiI, Mach 1, Cobra 99/01...300-500$

Notch the stock pistons-almost free
CNC the heads-$1000ish
Run a big cam...240s duration-550$
Valve Springs for said cams-200$
Edelbrock intake and 6061 elbow-intake 300...6061 no idea. 200?
Longtubes, OR X or H, cat back-800-1000$
And a good tune. 400-500$

Thats a 340+rwhp combo if done properly. Thats about as cheap as you can go. And you DO NOT need to build the bottom end like most are saying if you stay NA...and you could still spray this combo above with about a 100 shot and still be safe.

The reason I like NA over all these guys saying boost is cause you don't need forged motors most of the time unless you go crazy. Fuel systems aren't needed. For this combo, in a 96-97 cars its a 255lph pump and 30lb injectors at most. The BFSC is way more efficient in NA, so 20% more fuel isn't needed. You aren't wasting power/fuel to turn the blower. a fuel system for a 350rwhp blower car may be about the same as 350hp NA car, but it def needs more injector. a 400hp NA and 400hp blower car need way different fuel systems, and it just get progressively worse and worse as you add more power with the blower.

Plus, when you can hang or beat a blower car, with an NA car...its just way cooler and mad props. ;) Been there done that.

forget about that boost idea..that 10.5:1 is too unsafe for you to be running boost especially with any kinda miles on it.

What are you talking about you can run boost with a 10.5:1 compression ratio plenty of people do. Your gonna need a sick ass tuner and you wont be able to boost much but it is very very very possible. Ive seen alot of threads where most people actually prefer a higher compression lower boost. Over high boost low compession.

YES BUT AGAIN WERE TALKING ABOUT CHEAP HERE ARENT WE???? guys gonna spend a pretty penny having that stupid bitch tuned for 5psi ontop of 10.5:1 bottom end..and now boost ontop of compression means HIGHER HP numbers which means NEEDED shortblock..are people not understanding this guy said cheap????? a $2000 shortblock is NOT cheap, a $1000 in tuning is NOT cheap, a $1500 big bore setup is NOT cheap...hell a blower is NOT cheap...

im done posting in this thread ill just let it continue to fill up with $10,000 engine builds so this guy gets no useful info

The OP has yet to chime in about any sort of budget or goals, even though being asked repeatedly. What might be "cheap" to one person may not be "cheap" to another. The same can be said for "high hp".

this is true...but how is a $10k motor cheap to anyone? especially someone with a stock sn95 2v?????

and yeah high hp ranges from person to person..im sure if we started a thread on what is high hp to you...we'd probably get 30k different answers...but if the op isnt answering the ONLY question he should be why do people keep putting in suggestions when they dont know EXACTLY what he's talking about?

I don't think I should answer that one. :tomato

lmfao i guess this is why im always the bad guy here...cuz it doesnt bother me to stand up and be like wtf??? i mean theres so much bad info spread all over the forums all day anyways...

Reguardless, to whats cheap as you stated before with a 2v n/a is not going to be cheap, but forced induction isnt going to be cheap either. Im to lazy to go back but if you said fi was the cheapest way to get power your still looking at 2500 for a used system. if you find anything cheaper then id be weary on buying.

Also on a side not i wasnt suggesting he go with a higher compression ratio and a blower that would be buku dollars. I was just telling you for your information that running higher compression would be ok if he wanted to boost on a pi swap top end. You said it was completely unsafe and thats not true if you have the money and the means you'll prob make a lot more power on low boost.
