My dad was driving my car the other day and he saw that gas was leaking when he tried to fill it up. He dropped It off at a local mechanic and he said Its the neck filler....

Anyone know How much this will run me?

it could be rusted! most likely its the rubber gromit on the tank where the fuel filler goes into the tank. its like a 20$ part.

You have to drop the tank to fix it.

I just fixed this on my mustang like 2 months ago.

I say drop the tank.. take a look at the rubber seal at the enterance of the tank.. if its broken put it back together and see if it fixes it..

here is my thread about it!

There is a few good walk throughts.. ITs really easy to fix. I thought it was going to be difficult. but really it was alot eaiser then it seems.. just have someone there with you when you go to drop the tank to help you hold it and move it around...

Good luck

Thanks man!! Just got back from teh mechanic he said $800 altogether part + labor.

It needs a new Neck filler......

Im not sure if you can see from the picture but there is a little tiny hole on the rusted part in the middle where it leaks from.......

As a temporary fix to wait till moneys not so tight just get some jb weld and plug the hole with it. It will last a little while until you can get the money to fix it. $800 seems steep for some reason.

Get a new mechanic. You can get the filler from a junkyard cheap (<$30) and then spend an afternoon with a jack, jackstands, and socket set to drop the tank a little and get the new neck in. It'll be a pain the first time, but after that you can take a tank out and put it back in within 30min no sweat.

+1, Not a terribly difficult project. The fuel lines can be a PITA sometimes but overall really not hard.

i agree. when i dropped my tank i was able to remove the filler neck completly.

Not a hard job by any means. Just ned a helping hand and about 2 hours..

that happend to me and i needed to drive from NJ to MA the next day. i took it to the dealer and they only charged me 18 for the rubber piece and one hour of labor. think it was 120 all togeather, and they even gave me a free ford racing t-shirt ha

When I first read that I thought WTF!!! Weld it?!?!?!

Then I re-read it...

It's a helluva lot easier to drop the tank, especially if you have a floor jack. Just do the job on a nearly empty tank.

I hunted around and found the neck for about $150. The dougnut seal cost me $20 or so from the dealer. Less than an hour of time.

You'll want to change it out, instead of cheaping out.
