These are some of the photos I took at the Autocross Spring Nationals over Memorial Day Weekend here in Lincoln. 625 drivers converged on Lincoln for a 4 day autocross bonanza and I got to take pictures on Sunday. I took 1500+ photos that day and came out with 858 half way decent ones but this dumbass forgot to bring the 50-200mm lens for my Pentax K-r which really killed most of the good photo taking opportunities since my spotter and I were not allowed directly on course and only on the edge of it. Still some half way decent photos of some awesome cars! Also had some trouble with the cloud cover making exposures hard to do. You could get a few good shots with the correct exposure then a big cloud would roll over, then you'd readjust take a few photos and the cloud would go away. It was annoying!

Here is a "stock" Camaro in the middle of a slalom, it looks like it's ready for a Rallycross event! :)

Look at the cone (I know the photo is way out there...)!!! It landed upright and in the box, so the driver didn't get penalized. Still a good photo, just wish I had my better zoom lens! :(

Lots of tricycles out there! This one even came with complementary tire smoke!

Here is a link to the album. Fair warning, 858 photos (some duplicates):

Good shot RZN, If you tweak a little of that hot sun glare out of it you got a wall hanger there. Looks like harsh mid day sun?
Yeah, it sun pretty bright. Still trying to figure out this whole picture taking thing. lol

RZN Your fine - it's an excellent shot for the time of day (harshest and hardest to shoot in). If you want to make the whole editing thing easier on you, shoot that shot about an hour after sunrise, an hour before sunset, or migrate to some shaded space.

I was not dinging the picture, as your well aware of now, black is absolutely the hardest to photograph. Meter for the car, the sky blows out, meter for the sky the car has no detail and looks under exposed. The good news, photogging everything else will become easy.

I'd love to see the following for this shot, because it has the opportunity to be a sweet print:

1. Pull the car slightly forward to get it between the two stainless gutters rather than that back one passing through it. Doesn't need to be perfectly symmetrical by any means.

2. Fill the nose by bouncing some of that side and rear light your getting up into the beak of the car to draw out some more details. Do it with a white sheet or a fold up disc - Don't use flash, it would be too much as some of the shadows are making this shot really work. Because of the composition (thirds) you might need something a touch more reflective to bounce from camera left and not have it in the shot.

3. Your other choice over option 2 is to do a composite.

It's a great shot, all of them are darn good, these little tricks will take it to the next level.

Looking for a little input from the pros! Some of my recent shots...looking for feedback on what to try to improve on or things to be thinking about when framing or setting up the shots.

Any help I appreciated!

Thanks Emay!

I didnt think about the placement of the downspouts until I got home and started editing:(

Could I use one of those windshield heat deflectors to bounce the light?

I really want to work on this! Unfortunately, I will be out of town this weekend and Im working crazy hours at the moment. Looks like it will have to wait till the next weekend since Ive got to hit this spot at like 8:30am to get this lighting.

RZN - I'd stick with the first or take another run at the edit. Your blacks lightened too much in my opinion. What was your work flow?

If it were my shot, I'd mask the hot spots and try to tone just that space down leaving the rest of that shot alone. The car side is killer as is - deep black.
